I just read your profile page. I was truly touched to see such love from a Dutchman for America.

I took a tour of Europe a couple of years ago, the Dutch were probably the nicest people I met during my visit (the French were the worst). The only thing I couldn't understand is why they dislike the Germans so much. I'm an American of many generations but I'm of German descent. During WWII my great-grandfather changed our last name from a German one to a Dutch one because of bigotry. When I was in Holland many of the natives figured that I was of Dutch descent because of my last name, when I told them that I was German it seemed to turn many people off. One Dutchman explained to us that it was because of WWII...

Older Europeans with some memory of WWII are not fond of Germans. They were brutal occupiers during the war.
