RUSH LIMBAUGH: BUSH "NO CONSERVATIVE"

Posted on 03/16/2002 10:01:26 PM PST by StopDemocratsDotCom

It took a while for Bush to win over Conservatives who now support him all way. That's why I hate it when the word RHINO is thrown left and right when talking about a Republican who may do something that seems out of step with what we agree with and we don't realize that politics is all about winning and looking like a "centrist"

Check out this 1999 Article:

Conservative talkmeister Rush Limbaugh blasted away at George W. Bush with both barrels today, stoking a possible clash between grass-roots conservatives and the front-running candidate who is already pursuing a centerist general election strategy.

"He's really wandered off the reservation here lately folks," Limbaugh intoned, before making the case against the recent Bush positioning.

"In my mind," he told his listeners, "no conservative running for president would make the kind of statements that he's made. No conservative running for president would leave his philosophical brothers and sisters dying on the congressional battlefield the way Bush did with that EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) thing. And now he's done it again with the speech at the Manhattan Institute. He's done it twice in seven or eight days time."

"This obviously is a carefully crafted strategy." Limbaugh continued. "What it means is that solid conservatives from Tom DeLay to Dick Armey, who are doing all they can to eke out small majorities and beat back Clinton and all his Big Government schemes-issue after issue-end up being emasculated by Bush's comments."

"Who wants a Republican moderate as president?" Limbaugh asked, a question the Bush camp must hope that other conservatives don't begin asking.

Merc, you know I love ya, but some of the stuff on that page is a bit much.

I agree with you!

Her essays on Jesse Jackson and Hillary Clinton are hilarious, but no, I do not see eye-to-eye with her on issues of race and Judaism.

However, I reserve my right to link to a page where I DO NOT have 100% agreement with the author.

And being a bit perverse, I'm less likely to be convinced (or BULLIED) into withdrawing a link because it is "offensive" or even at times "extreme"...especially when being browbeaten and insulted and threatened by the pathetic Thought Police who have no other power in their lives except to slime people via Guilt By Association.

And would you REALLY have me any other way?

Please review 116. You can put up anything about ol' Murray you want and it don't mean a thing. He looks pretty light-skinned to me.

I suppose we're pretty close as you must live in Vidor. I hear the Klan is still pretty active over there.

As far as drinks, no thanks. Coffee and Copenhagen are my only vices. Have a good evening.

Oh yeah, Stop the Hate. It only leaves you bitter inside, Vincent.

LOL!!! No problem, and no argument, she IS bitchy!!!

It's interesting to watch, though, isn't it?

People who had been hollering about Abuse Of Power and Censorship and the evils of guilt-by-association practiced by the Clinton Administration have become exactly what they professed to hate.

How DID that happen?

Fine.

If you've decided to make it your mission on FR to spam whatever thread I'm on because you believe yourself so much superior to SPLC and DIFFERENT in your determination of what constitutes a "hater" and a "hatesite" (HOW exactly are you different from Morris "Sleaze" Dees? i must have missed it), and if you're too cowardly to call those in charge to attend to your noble efforts and why...hell, it's MY reputation on the line.

Allow ME to "alert" those in charge of the Forum and the Network. I'm sure they will be most grateful for your glorious mission and will appreciate your ignoring the rules of this board in order to lead them to the light.

Har.

BTW...are you so mannerless and frothing that you have no idea how RUDE it is for you to bring unrelated issues into someone else's thread?

Go ahead.

Tell Jim Robinson.

Tell Bob J.

Tell the MODERATORS, for all I care.

I'm sure they'll ALL appreciate your attempts to disrupt threads in order to attempt to get a link of which you don't approve off the board.

I can take the heat plenty, boy, and I've taken it.

I'm not complaining at all.

But if you are SO SCARED of the management seeing your noble attempts to disrupt threads where the Evil Racist-Linker Mercuria resides, that's YOUR heat and YOUR kitchen of your OWN MAKING, little man.

Hell, I don't want this thread pulled at ALL. I've got it saved to hard drive where I will be MOST HAPPY to resurrect it elsewhere to let people decide for themselves whether Merc or VinnyTex is the "extremist".

Good night.

"....a quote from Ben Franklin "no nation ever ruined itself by free trade".

From which of his personal writings did you lift this alleged quote? Perhaps you are relying upon a self-serving globalist hack like Rushmouth? Please also include documentation supporting your claim that President Jefferson was anti-tariffs. You will recall that tariffs were, at that time, the primary revenue source for central government expenses.

Sources are the only medium of exchange in the FR. Credible sources that is.

Yes there were tariffs but they were low for the record I DO prefer them to income taxes. As for a source Ben Franklin Quotes . As for Jefferson Thomas Jefferson's 1793 Report On Trade

We have a President that , quite possibly will wind up on Mt Rushmore....

...and the flag of Mexico will probably then be flying at the observation point.

Two things are needed to win.
1. Gain part of the middle. No argument there.
2. This part is forgotted...NEVER FORGET WHAT BROUGHT YOU THERE. If you abandon your base, you are done.

I don't know how many times I've said this very thing. Increasing your appeal to moderates is nice, but not if it causes you to lose your conservative base. The base consists of "broken glass" voters; the ones who'd crawl through broken glass if they had to in order to vote. Moderates do not show anywhere near that level of interest in voting. They'll go out and vote if it isn't too inconvenient. So appealling to a particular moderate voter might result in a vote. But, if they have to stop and pick up the kids from soccer practice that day, or buy groceries, or they planned to go to a movie, or if Survivor or Friends is on that night... Any distraction has a very good chance of keeping them away from the voting booth. Appeal to a conservative, however, and he will vote; even if he has to crawl through broken glass to do it. But the base won't show this dedication to a wishy-washy RINO. They'll stay home if the "conservative" in the race is too interested in appeasing moderates.

But that's the bad news. Here's the really bad news: The liberal counterparts to the broken glass conservatives aren't nearly as picky. They will accept a liberal candidate who is straying off of the reservation to pick up moderates. Why? Because they are in a more advantageous political position than we are. They want an increase in the size and power of government. They have two generations of inertia behind them pushing towards that goal. We are pushing against that inertia. Thus a moderate candidate is still pushing the right way in their view. A moderate adds to that inertia, albeit not as forcefully as they'd like. To us, the moderate is also seen as adding to that inertia, but in the wrong way. Pushing more slowly towards a totalitarian state is still pushing towards a totalitarian state! To a conservative, this is a bad thing, but to a liberal, it's acceptable. Thus Democrats can usually get away with upsetting their base; they will vote for them anyway. Republicans do not have this luxury. They must woo moderates, but in a way that does not offend the base. This is a much harder task. And given that the payoff is a "maybe" vote, it's much more important to keep the base happy and engaged. The good news here is that the GOP's conservative base is larger than the liberal base. Even though the Democrats have an edge in registrations, a lower percentage are "broken glass" liberals.
