Conservative Rock Groups?

Posted on 03/17/2002 11:56:23 AM PST by Lebowski

I was wondering if anybody can name some conservative rockers. It seams most people in the Music Industry are Left-Leaning, especially the hard stuff. I think you could say the same for most entertainment personalities, including movie stars and directors. So if any of my fellow conservatives could point me in the way of some good conservative rock groups it would be appreciated.

RUSH is my favorite. What "disgust with guns" do you refer to? Haven't noticed it in any of their lyrics. Cite one?

They may not be, but their lyrics are.

I did with Guns that Neil Peart co-wrote with the Rheostatics in Canada. Neil and Geddy have been very outspoken on gun violence and kids in Canada.

By the way, in case anyone's interested, here's some lyrical excerpts from Agnostic Front's song "Public Assistance":

You can go to school for nothing/Got that government grant/Get money in advance...

When you're sick from shooting up/Medicaid pays full portion/When little Maria gets knocked up/She gets a free abortion

Uncle Sam takes half my pay/So you can live for free

I got a family and bills to pay/No one hands money to me

How come it's minorities/Who cry things are too tough?/On TV with their gold chains/Claim they don't get enough/I say make 'em clean sewers/Don't take no resistance/And if they don't like it/Go to hell, cut their public assistance!

There are two unlikely, but nonetheless outstanding, Blues songs on this album you are no doubt aware of . . .

BluesDuke's Blues Thread . . .

OK, Canada IS a different country, with no 2nd.Amendment. But being against gun violence is NOT the same thing as being against gun ownership. Again, ENLIGHTEN ME. Details, please. I love RUSH too much to wonder in the dark.

Canada is where they are from and Neil's views on guns were/are that they are worthless and dumb. Period. Geddy was asked the same thing and gave the same answer. So for them to apply their opinion as Canadians then that is the answer you are going to get.I doubt it will change now that Neil lives in California now.

I'm digressing here . . . This is a Conservative Rock thread . . .
however long it lasts . . .

I'm going out on a limb here and nominating Neil Young. IMHO, Neil has changed from unabashed Liberal to rocking Conservative in his old age . . .

Case in point:
Lets Roll
The Old Homestead
Going Home

Saw him last week (in the Bradley Center, along with Crosby, Stills & Nash). Third row seats, free, from a very generous friend of mine.

I can now die a happy man . . .

Rocket To Russia was cool. It's great to see what punk rock used to be like before the scene was hijacked by p.c. neo-hippie crustbuckets. I blame Crass and their ilk for it.

I'm just happy with any artist or group who flat refuses to espouse ANY political leaning either in their music or their personal lives.

Any artist or group who takes on the attitude that their politics isnt anybody's darn business is allright by me.

I thought that the AIDS tribute was how the album started out but then when America was attacked on September 11th, a WTC charity was chosen for the album as well (it was one of the first in the stores).

Yeah it didn't make a bit of sense to me to tie the two charities together either but then we've got "Food Not Bombs" protesting on behalf of the Gore recounts, PETA protesting against the war, etc.. Whatever makes the participants "feel" better just so they'll come on-board the socialists' agenda.

And let us not forget, The Beatles' "Revolution" is an unapologetic rejection of the destructive tendencies of the left.

Don't forget The Beatles' "Taxman".
