Me

I am looking for good conservative sites that might provide MP3 content of articles, commentary, etc which can be downloaded for listening.
Any ideas where a good conservative can find such things?
Thanks In Advance

Use Google to search the web for an MP3 compressor. The one I use is freeware. It will convert any .WAV file to MP3. If you install Total Recorder ($19) you can record any sound file in .WAV and convert it to MP3. I use them both nearly every day.

WinMX is much better.

Kazaa is FULL of spyware. Download a good spyware killer to go with it.

you beat me to it...the first thing I thought when I saw kazaa was SPYWARE. ad aware should take care of it though.

Some people over on download.com complained that once use ad-aware on kazaa, it won't work. Others say it opens you up to a serious hacking and that they have had to reformat their hard drives.
Do you use kazaa or do you prefer another?

This is true, if you just remove the spyware with Ad-aware from Kazaa or Grockster the programs won't work. There are web pages that detail work arounds to deal with this that involve creating a dummy .dll file. Anything downloaded via PTP should be scanned with your anti-virus software before running, even MP3's. I'm now using the WinMX 3.0 beta software and having pretty good results. Morpheus was the best post-Napster PTP program until a few weeks ago when they switched to a gnutella protocol and now it sucks big time.

I used Aimster for a long time, but then it switched to Madster, and they want my credit card number. No thanks.
I had BearShare for a while, but I no longer felt like waiting 5 hours for a song to download. Morpheus WAS good, but now they suck too. Imesh was a nightmare. There is a new one, limewire, but I think that is part of gnutella too.

it doesn't work for anything but mp3s, but I use audiogalaxy.com.
I have found incredibly obscure things....like certain 80's new wave songs even DJs I ask have never heard of.
They sometimes "block" songs...but all you have to do is keep searching....people change the names of the songs and you're ready to download again!
also I downloaded about 325 episodes of "CBS Radio Mystery Theater" a cool old radio show that ran from 1976-1982 or so...

I dlownloaded WinMX last night. So far so good, but I sure miss napster. I found some really rare stuff there too.

Does it drag as much as BearShare or other Gnutella based sites?

I've used Morpheus, it is buggy at times but works, tends to have the most songs available too. But surprisingly, lately I have found that my ftp (file transfer protocal) program (cuteftp) has an awesome MP3 search too. I like it best of all, though it is not as comprehensive as Morpheus. Just depends on what you are looking for, if it is/was somewhat popular than I would perfer CuteFTP over the others. Your FTP usually has better download speed too.

Does it drag as much as BearShare or other Gnutella based sites? My personal experience (I have a dialup modem) is that the advertisments cause alot of drag with some of these programs. I run a program called "Adsubtract" that solves alot of their drag. It not only blocks advertisments (yes Jim Roberson I block your sites ads) but it also blocks Pop-up screens, background music, cookies, java script, referrals, ect.. that slow down connections. Of course you can set it to allow what you want on any site of your choise. I absolutely love it... www.adsubtract.com (I have the pro version, but there is a free version too).

WinMX is the only MP3 site I trust right now. It does not load spyware, pop-up ads or other Trojan Horse type programs. You can find pretty much whatever you are looking for so long as you are patient. Also be sure you "ping all results" when searching and try to only download pings that are in double digits (as opposed to triple digits) to avoid transfer errors.
