Maybe it depends on who the audience is?The Bush cheerleaders, aka Bushbots, will claim Bush is a genius no matter what he does, including this amnesty/pandering garbage. Those concerned with protecting the border and the country, see this pandering for what it is. Kudos to Byrd if he stops this insanity.

I'm with innocentbystander. Hispanics are now the largest minority in the US. Although the amnesty proposal itself may have made W's most conservative base "nervous" it'll be KKK Byrd that is remembered by Hispanics for killing the bill that passed the House by a good margin while W looks compassionate to Hispanic facing deportation and the break up of their families.
Like Bystander suggests - win, win!
