Bono 'would have lunch with Satan'

Bono says he would "have lunch with Satan" to help his crusade against poverty and disease. The U2 singer says he has no problem dealing with right-wing politicians as he campaigns.

Bono says White House officials have dubbed him "the pest" because his lobbying is so persistent.

He admits he has lost friends through some of his political wheeling and dealing, reports the Daily Record.

Bono has even forged an unlikely link with right-wing senator Jesse Helms, who once called homosexuals "weak, morally sick wretches."

And he says U2 bandmate The Edge tried to rein him in in his efforts to fight famine and the spread of Aids.

Bono admitted: "Edge was pleading with me not to hang out with conservatives. He said 'You're not going to have your picture taken with George Bush?'

"I said I'd have lunch with Satan if there was so much at stake. I have friends who won't speak to me because of Helms. But it's very important not to play politics with this.

"Millions of lives are being lost for the stupidest of reasons - money. And not even very much money.

"So let's not play, who are the good guys and who are the bad guys? Let's rely on the moral force of our arguments."

If he feels so guilty about his wealth, and millions of lives can be saved for "not very much money" why doesn't he give his fortunes to the cause rather than taking it from hard working Americans who don't earn 'very much money' themselves?

Millions of lives are being lost because people won't take responsibility for themselves or their own people.

Money is never the problem. The problem is irresponsible people who won't take positive action in their lives.

Not to mention his self-serving crusade to get more publicity!

As rock groups go, U2 are the Boy Scouts. They take more risks than are appreciated by our side, and probably hurt their own business by taking stands which may not be conservative, but are certainly right-of-left. Check 'em out.

Sign of an entertainer's career being in the tank # 57:
Banal political pronouncements and a desire to spend other's money.

OK Bono, here's a suggestion. Fire your existing management, crew, and recording engineers and hire ignorant, starving people to replace them. You'll save their lives, however briefly, and their incompetence will torpedo your career. You'll have done your part, and you'll have enough time on your hands to reconsider the "stupidity" of money.

"Edge was pleading with me not to hang out with conservatives.

Suggestion to Mr. Edge -- please, oh please, get thee to a guitar instructor. You're open string-slap back bit had its 15 minutes. Time to move on Mr. Edge...Chuck Berry, the Kinks, et al. Don't want ya to choke on the guitar tradition, but how about a single note solo once in a while? BTW, shut up.

I've got a better idea, Bono. Why don't you give away all of your money to solve the problem, then take some time off and figure out how to not SUCK anymore. U2 peaked with Achtung Baby and have really SUCKED since then.

I think we're missing the important and astonishing aspect of this article:

"Edge was pleading with me not to hang out with conservatives. He said 'You're not going to have your picture taken with George Bush?'

This is an all out admission, by a liberal, that if you're an outspoken conservative, or even have conservative friends, you're blacklisted and it will hurt your career.

To hell with the Edge. I was big U2 fan when I was a teenager, and bought their last album, but never again. I grew up, obviously the Edge never did, lol. Talk about intolerant! Bono's crusade is really getting rather tiresome and I am sick of seeing politicians pandering to this screwball.

Phoney, phoney, phoney.

Yes, they are. I remember when they claimed they were against 'commercialism' and later teamed up with Kmart for promotion! LOL What a bunch of hypocrites! I can't believe I used to look up to these clowns.

Me too!!! I can't stand Bono and Dave Evans, aka the Edge, but Larry Mullen Jr. generally keeps to himself and is pretty quiet. And yes, he is gorgeous.

Since you already know the answer, please save the rest of us some time and list these stands.
