I SOOO agree about Chocolat! I have had so many arguments with women about this movie, which aggravated the hell out of me. Women are the worst when it comes to things like this. My argument is why was Juliet Binoche's character so disrespectful to the town in which she came to live? But women never see that angle, it's always the woman as the victim.

I saw that movie last week too. It was called EXIT WOUNDS. It made NO sense. And what the hell happened to his beautiful boss at the end? How come movie cops can just walk into a nightclub and start beating up people? Can you imagine if this happened in real life. But then again, Steven (Cradle-Robber) Segal's movies never have anything to do with reality, although he thinks they do.

I saw the first half of "Chocolat" and thought it really set up a straw-man argument against religion. There was a scene in which a nice, lonely old man is in confession and he tells the priest that he prayed to God for his little dog to recover from its illness. The priest lectures him to the tune of "when will you stop mocking God by praying for an animal? Animals don't have souls."

There had already been put-downs of the Lenten tradition of giving up a pleasure, with no idea that it was temporary, to honor Jesus, and that there was a greater reward. It was shown as just some tradition that people did for some dumb reason. The scene with the mean, petty priest capped my building annoyance.

I can handle a movie that questions a religious tradition or belief. Just don't insult my intelligence.

There are a lot of women who feel more than they think. They like to identify with a female character and pretend that they are her - sort of like little girls with their dolls. It's more fun to escape into the fantasy of being a beautiful, mysterious free spirit like Binoche's character than to really think critically about what she was doing.

Seems to me that I remember an important part of the Contract of America that said that the rule makers could not exempt themselves from the rules, as they had done before. Read: FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;

In recent periods, The Contender.

I watched The Contender last night. It was laughable. It could have been great propaganda for the far left (and I believe it tried to be) but it was poorly directed and the casting had too much caricature. It was all too pat to the point it was just silly. I watched most of it but turned it off near the end to watch something else. The woman who said guns should be confiscated from every household, who said that Christianity is a "fairy tale", and who also said she could not support any pro-life nomination for the Supreme Court ended up getting confirmed as VP, right? (Don't worry about "spoiling" the ending, LOL!) And she gets confirmed overwhelmingly because of the passionate speech given by President Jeff Bridges, right? LOL !!!

I would leave that one out of your list. It's based on an obvious lie (or crass distortion at best) and sounds buffoonish, thereby casting doubts on the credibility of the rest of your list of caricatured generalizations.
