The Day the Earth Stood StillAn excellent choice. What is interesting, in the 1940 story on which the film was loosely based ("Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates), there was none of the "enlightened space brother" stuff that permeated the movie. In the story, it was the robot who turned out to be the master, not Klaatu.

I still sort of liked the movie (The Day The Earth Stood Still), despite the liberal message. Trivia quiz: The name of the robot? Funniest part of the movie: Two doctors discussing Klaatu. Doc 1: "He says that people on his planet have conquered disease and live for hundreds of years!" Doc 2: "You don't say," as he opens a pack of cigarettes and hands one to Doc 1. ROTFLMAO.

Yes! I have seen it a couple of times, very cheaply produced and shallow....I doubt the writers realized the humor. But its possible I guess that they were really libertarians and were having a big joke at the public's expense. But not likely.
