Oliphant catoon paints with broad brush in attack on Catholics: All Bishops are pedophiles

I'm hearing that an Oliphant syndicated cartoon in many papers today is causing outrage on the part of Catholics. It depicts a "race" at "St. Pedophilia" where hundreds of altar boys are running and a caption reads "The Bishop gets first dibs" on choosing his boy.

I think the church leaders are late in cleaning up this problem, however from what I hear this cartoon is way over the line.

Long ago, when I was up for a highly sensitive job in the military, I was required to take a polygraph test. Not only was I asked the standard ethical and drug questions (there was no urinalysis then) but I also was asked sexuality questions. I realize that this kind of test now would be frowned upon by the liberal establishment but I understand it has been deemed legal for some types of employment purposes (although I don't know about all applications) and perhaps should be considered to get into the priesthood.

It's not too broad a brush. It's an intentionally misdirected one.

Like most liberals Oliphant wants society to accept homosexuality as a healthy and normal lifestyle choice that churches should embrace. However over 90% of the reported abuse cases among the clergy are of homosexual molestation of teenagers. That's not pedophilia. It's a homosexual practice known as "chickenhawking."

But Oliphant is both too dogmatically liberal to question the virtue of homosexuality, and too cowardly to defy liberal convention if he did notice it. So he misdirects his readers to believe the large problem is pedophilia, and therefore gets to condemn the behavior without condemning homosexual priests.

I agree this is more about homosexuality. But can you name five bishops that have been truly outspoken the past fifteen or twenty years over the cover up by their peers?

I rest my case. They are getting what they deserve.

I know that I will get a lot of flak for saying this, but, there was just as much of this type of pedophilia going on in my high school in the sixties as there was in the Catholic church. We had a gay music teacher, preying on the boys, a hetero-sexual middle aged female preying on the boys, and a hetero-sexual history teacher preying on girls (maybe two history teachers). We only had one priest, molesting boys. My guess is that we would find the same percentage of this type of behavior in any profession.
