A lot of us in "fly-over country" only have dial-up service, and many can't get higher than 37K. That sums it up for me. I'm speeding if I can get 48.8k. I've learned to navigate the site but I can't do anything about the speed. And downloading a self-search or a latest threads is akin to watching ice freeze.
FR used to be one of the fastest sites (2nd on my computer only to google). Now it is slooow.
People with high-speed connections are complaining about this. Think about us poor hillbillies with dial-ups!

My impression is that a lot of the changes were being made because a handful of people complained a lot about having to be bothered to ignore topics they weren't interested in to get to ones that they were. Now it seems that the opposite has occurred. Please don't insult your hosts that way ... they're not like that sweet. This was a systematically designed, programmed and executed software overhaul. This was in the plans for at least 2-3 months - here it is! Drift around in that scary netherworld outside this thread, you may find comfort or curiosity in some of the links or nooks.

And just prior to that there was a lot of whining from people for whom it was too much trouble to just ignore posts they didn't want to read. Other than that, I wasn't aware of any problems at all. That's the point I was making, because a lot of people seem to be saying, "what was the reason?" I also played with the beta version and kept going back to the original. I am not one of the ones saying "why weren't we warned?" And I have been on other threads. I'm saying there is good and bad and I trust that this isn't the final prduct.

It works for me.........I simply slide the cursor across the screen, select the subject matter I want to view, and the entire contents of that forum are ready to view...........
that in turn allows me to greatly limit the # of subscribed forums, thereby reducing the clutter on the sidebar page.

Ditto on the Dial-up thing. There is no way I can get anything BUT dial-up where I am, and to make matters worse, the phone lines deliver about 27,000 to my 56K modem. A lot of the "kiddie" hightech websites are out of range for people like me, (not that I care), but I'd hate to be shut out of FR because the high-techies have taken over, with every bell and whistle they can put in.......sigh
