MUSKRAT LOVE by Captain & Tennille did not appear on the charts until September of 1976. It ended up being a Top 5 smash, staying at #4 for several weeks. Amazingly, the soft-rock group America had a minor hit with the song back in 1973, but it only peaked at #67 that year. That was truly a horrible song.

Yeah, but all things have their uses.
It served to to create the massively funny Visa Check commercial where the Pittsburg Steelers PA guy couldn't buy a copy of "Who Let The Dogs Out?".

In the summer of '74 I found myself 5 hours short of graduating, so I took a crib course....Ecology 101.

Nothing but doom and gloom from Paul Ehrlich and Rachel Carson telling us that there would be ....too many people.... starving..... and cold. The DDT would break all the bird's eggs...global cooling would take care of the vegetation...and oil would be gone.

Today the text books say we are wasting energy, we are obese and we are heating up the planet.
What's a poor boy to do?

There are ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production– with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth. The drop in food output could begin quite soon, perhaps only 10 years from now.

Heard the same thing from Paul Erlich in 1973....still waiting.

Minnie Riperton wasn't just a one-hit wonder. She had a followup hit called "Inside My Love" that hit #76 later in 1975. Some might laugh but then most never made the charts at all. Minnie died of cancer when she was just 31 years old back in 1979. She once sang backup vocals in Steve Wonder's band and she was lead singer of the R&B band called Rotary Connection, who had a minor hit called "Want You To Know" back in 1970. It peaked at #96 that year.

I saw that commercial during the NFL playoffs. I never quite understood it. Why was the football stadium playing "Lovin' You" and why was that guy trying to buy "Who Let The Dogs Out" in the record store?

I didn't mean to laugh and I am sorry to hear about Ms. Riperton's untimely demise at such an early age.

But I'm sorry that song(Lovin' You) that was #4 in April 75 has to be one of the most annoying songs ever recorded, IMHO.

Some others were "Mickey" by Toni Basil released in 82 and the Bay City Roller's "Saturday Night" released in 76.

Since the PA guy didn't have a VISA Check Card (Like Bob Dole) he was unable to purchase a copy of "Who Let The Dogs Out" to play to stir up the crowd....so he had to go with what he had.

The looks on the crowd and the player's faces when the warbling, echoing...

Lovin' You was certainly an annoying song but I'd rather hear it 100 times than hear Mickey by Toni Basil once! Other really annoying songs from the 70s and 80s included "I Love" by Tom T. Hall, "Candy Man" by Sammy Davis Jr., and "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats. Also "Pass The Dutchie" by the Musical Youth and I can go on all day. I'd start a thread but it would probably go to 1000 replies in 24 hours and 200 of them would be by people saying "This is a complete waste of JimRob's bandwidth."

LOL! A local radio station did a parody about that song about the Jim Trafficant trial called the "Congressman Can" which they played today, but I don't see it on their web site of the Trafficant trial "parody' songs.
