Unfortunatly, old articles are READ ONLY, so I'm reposting it. It is originally posted here

Our biggest threat IMO comes from the Public Health lobbies out there. We must know our enemy, and be ready to respond.

Brad Foster is the former president of MCRGO. He's still active in our organazation.

This article is 3 1/2 years old, but is as relevant now as it was back in 1998. We in Michigan have done a great job countering much of it. However, we are NOT and NEVER WILL BE, out of the woods on this. I look at what is out in California, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticutt, Rhode Island, Illinois, New York City, and Hawaii and do not want to see THAT over here. I don't want to see that on the FEDERAL level either.

We must stay vigilant.

The Public Health Approach to Gun Control

...is to try to get to your kids any way they can when the parents are not absent. One way that they are trying to do this is to get the kid alone in an examination room and interrogate him/her about things not remotely related to health. Another way is to talk to the kiddies at school while the liberal teachers sit and nod stupidly.

Trying to take my guns away would be hazardous to one's health.

More people, by far, are killed by vehicles-- we need to change the subject and challenge the health community reassess its perception of this insidious weapon called a vehicle, and how we all are traumatized by the bloodshed on our nation's roads and highways.

However, we are NOT and NEVER WILL BE, out of the woods on this.

Always be vigilant, and willing to fight for total victory, but let's not underestimate how far we've come since 1998. The gun control movement has been largely destroyed, gun control laws are coming off the books across the nation, etc. Yeah, it'll be a few years until we can break them in places like NY and California, but we will. The tide has turned, the public is no longer composed entirely of hoplophobes, and practically every gun owner in the country is now a reliable conservative voter (47% of 2000 voters owned at least one gun, and you can bet very few of them voted liberal).

We're winning. We have The Big Mo, as a certain someone once said. Fight on, but fight with a confident smile on your face!

The CCW wall is close to toppling in Wisconsin, Ohio, and Minnesota. We are gaining.

Does anyone know of a responsible (pro-gun) doctors association? If such doesn't exist, the good doctors on this site should start one. If any are interested, they should check out leadershipinstitute.org to take training classes on non-profit fundraising, communications, etc.

There are two pro-2a Dr. Groups. Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws and Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership.

"Secondly, the medical and public health establishments wield a substantial amount of political power." (MCRGO)

No they don't. Ask any doctor - that is, any doctor actually practicing - what has happened to insurance reimbursements in the past decade. Ask any doctor about the total lack of "tort reform" - and its impact on his profitability.

The best response to anyone claiming that guns must be regulated on "public health" grounds is that the same people have not shown any desire to do traditional "public health" style measures against anything else - notably AIDS. Nor have they sought crackdowns on immigration and illegal aliens - even when the federal Centers for Disease Control now reports that TB is very largely one of a whole list of communicable diseases CDC itself terms "immigrant diseases." Make this response during any legislative debate - and the mask of "public health" arguments is stripped away from antigun extremists.

Scandals of antigun politicians, activists, and lawyers

Now is a good time to post this.

Currently MEHPA is on the short list in fourteen State Capitols.

The Model Emergency Health Powers Act legislation would allow for Public Health Officials to seize and/or regulate the sale of "private property" or GUNS.

This Bullsnit is being pushed by the CDC, by way of Georgetown University's 'Center for Law and Public Health' who has for years been calling 'gun violence' a public health epidemic.

Neil Knox did a piece on this 10 January 2002.

Another case of: Let's limit Liberty in the name of 'Public Safety' syndrome.

Buy Guns and Ammo today... Tomorrow you may need them!

Public health model of firearms issues is an obvious fallacy. If guns were a disease, police officers would be the most diseased, and the most in need of disarmament.

Thanks for the ping...bookmarking for later perusal.

BTW - This isn't a new or novel approach to gun banning by these morons...they've been attempting to frame the debate this way for about 4-6 years now...under guess who's leadership...Clinton and his cronies.

Yep, and the kids are being brainwashed. I was getting the oil changed in my car a couple of weeks ago, and reading the latest issue of "American Handgunner" while in the waiting room. A woman came in with her two young daughters (probably 6 and 8, thereabouts). one of them whispered to her mom "Mommy - there are pictures of guns!". I know when I was that age I wouldn't have given it a thought to remark upon someone looking at a magazine with firearms photos.
