NEW YORK, Apr 03, 2002 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- A man who said he was depressed shot himself in the head Wednesday in the rectory of St. Patrick's Cathedral while talking with a priest, authorities and church officials said.
The man, covered in blood, was taken away by ambulance and reported in extremely critical condition at a hospital. His name was not released.
The priest was apparently not hurt.
The Roman Catholic cathedral is on Fifth Avenue and 50th Street in busy midtown Manhattan.
