Oh, woe is Bill Clinton
Boston Herald ^ | 4/03/02 | A Boston Herald editorial

Posted on 04/04/2002 4:57:14 AM PST by kattracks

Poor, persecuted Bill Clinton. So misunderstood. Everybody's always picking on him.<!ENDSUMM!>

Take that pardon of accused tax evader Marc Rich, a fugitive from justice, which was granted (along with 176 others) just hours before Clinton left the presidency in January last year. The ex-wife of this commodities trader (who was also accused of illegally trading oil with the people holding American hostages in Iran in 1979) just happened to have given hundreds of thousands of dollars toward the library to house Clinton's presidential papers. The pardon is the subject of federal and congressional investigations.

Clinton now tells Newsweek magazine the pardon was ``terrible politics'' and ``wasn't worth the damage to my reputation.'' There ``wasn't a shred of evidence that it had been done for any improper motive.'' He was angry that he got ``mugged one more time on the way out the door.''

Clinton hasn't learned a thing, and frankly his schtick is so predictable it's getting to be less infuriating than boring. Every decision is political, justified by how it is perceived, not by what is right, expedient or prudent. Nothing can be said straightforwardly; everything is cast in lawyer-lingo of what evidence is available. (Which always brings up: What is he hiding?) And any criticism of what he has done has no connection with the deed but arises from the malice of his opponents.

The man sounds like he's still campaigning - for a hug from Oprah

There ``wasn't a shred of evidence that it had been done for any improper motive.''

That's because he had the paper shredder working on overtime.

The Rapist is truly delusional. He is the most chilling example of a psychopathic narcissist I've ever seen.

....Which is why I hope he keeps flapping his lips in self-serving Newsweek interviews. I love the fact that he keeps repeating his lies and putting his moral bankruptcy on display for all to see.

Apparently he's never heard the axiom, "When you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging."

Brilliant observation! Very true.

That was done purely for money. Who's he kidding but the uneducated Democrat?

I love how greedy these idealistic 60's types are and how they lecture Republicans on Enron greed. Ridiculous.

Yeah, and we believe that he doesn't give a "rip" how historians rank him among past presidents, which I think is somewhere around the 20's. This guy is desperately wanting a legacy.

Does that "shred of evidence" remind you of Hillary's statement when cornered by Matt Lauer on Today? "But that will not be PROVEN" Wiggle Words. Clintons are so good at Wiggle Words.

Lay of Bill. He has already said that he regrets the Rich pardon. What more do you bloodsuckers want?

And for once, he actually has told the truth. He regrets it because he perceives it to have tarnished his "legacy." He doesnt regret it because it was wrong and inexcusable.

``mugged one more time on the way out the door.....''

As he carried stolen paintings and furniture from the White House.

His only "regret" over the Rich pardon is that he (Bill) got caught and looks bad as a result. It's all about him you see. Guess the liberal rags feel they can attack him now since he can't do anything to them with those FBI files he still has.

An innocent man says, "I did nothing wrong."

A guilty man says, "There is no evidence I did anything wrong."

``wasn't worth the damage to my reputation.''

That in itself is a laugh.

Oh, he has his legacy that's for sure. The legacy of being the biggest joke of a president in history, with video to pass to future generations.

Let's not forget those FALN pardons. The terrorists hadn't even asked for pardons and some were not accepted. No doubt still plotting from behind bars.

Notice how the Clintons say "there is no evidence of that," or "that has not been proven." Now nobody facing serious allegations of misconduct would ever respond in that manner. They would try to state facts that contradict the allegation, they would firmly deny the allegation as untrue, but they would never say "it hasn't been proven," which leaves open the logical implication that the charge is true.

Why this curious formulation? I think they know their supporters are either brain dead, or indifferent to the reality of their wrongdoing. They are supplying a phrase to their supporters to be repeated. It is third party defenders who would respond to allegations by saying "it hasn't been proven," not the parties directly charged.

So the Clintons, with their mastery of propaganda skills, are just supplying phrases that can be repeated by those who wish to defend them, not seriously trying to defend themselves. They are trying to take advantage of the phenomenon once referred to by one of their supporters - a lie repeated often enough becomes truth: a statement truly worthy of the late Dr. Joseph Goebbels. They are mounting the only defense they can: multiple repitions by supporters of the false statement "there is no proof" will leave the generally uninformed public with some vague recollection that true charges were somehow in dispute, and therefore can be ignored as uncertain - even though no refutation was ever supplied, only a general inapposite statement, a false statement, that "nothing was proven."

Does he also regret pardoning the Puerto Rican terrorists?

Being that I have no interest in reading the garbage Newsweak article I do not know. But I am sure if he said he regreted it I would have heard about it here on FR. And so far, I have not.
