To speed this up, I'll type in my questions to my new neighbors (husband) and his response. To be concise, I'll shorten his replies:
Do you like Sharon?
"Yes. He is doing the best he can."
What do you think should happen with the West Bank territory in Israel?
"Israel should give back this land so the Palestinians will have a homeland. Until this is done, until the Palistanians have a homeland, the terrorist bombings will probably continue and in fact, increase no matter how many meetings are held."
"Does the average person in Israel live in total fear from these bombings and are their lives completely disrupted now?"
"No, the Israeli citizens will not allow these bombings to disrupt their lives. The Israeli citizens, although very concerned, will not let these bombings dominate their daily thoughts."
Do you think that there will be another land war soon, a huge attack by a group of Arab nations, be it Syria, Egypt, or Iran in the near future?
"No, this is not what will happen. What will probably happen (within three years) is that Iran (and my neighbor specifically stated Iran) - will hit Israel with nuclear missiles. They can do this right now. This is why your President Bush has placed Iran in his axis of evil. Iran needs to be taken out as soon as possible."
But if Iran hits Israel with nukes, then Israel will reply with nukes.
(to my astonishment, my neighbor - very casually - replied:
"Yes. And this will be the end of Israel."
We talked a bit longer and I said it was nice to meet him, his wife and kids and I left. (this new neighbor said he was in the Israeli army for 20 years - and of course, his wife was also in the Israeli army - one other item I have to leave out is the high level that this new neighbor of mine attained while in the Israeli army)
Bottom line here folks, is things are very much worse then I imagined. I believe every word this man has stated but was surprised at how casual he was about his thoughts that the nuclear destruction of Israel is imminent. Perhaps as short as the next three years. Even if America knocks out Iran, my neighbor said that sooner or later, one of the Arab nations will hit Israel with nukes.
I, like most of you reading this, didn't think that nuclear war would be coming and especially not within three years. That somehow it would be averted. Doesn't look that way. Looks like the end of the line - is right around the corner.

Bottom line here folks, to me anyway, is things are much worse then I imagined. I believe every word this man has stated but was surprised at how casual he was about his thoughts that the nuclear destruction of Israel is probably imminent. Perhaps as short as within the next three years. Even if America knocks out Iran, my neighbor said that sooner or later, one of the Arab nations will most likely hit Israel with nukes.
I actually typed this up last night. Had planned to post it last night. Now I see that in copying what I typed up last night, and in my cut and paste for this morning, I've got typos, dup. paragraphs, sorry. Anyway....
While I don't doubt the earnestness of your new neighbor, unless the Arabs have several really large nukes or a lot of small ones, I don't believe Israel will be obliterated. And I suspect our response would be devastating. So while it may come to that, I wouldn't hit the panic button yet- just keep a weather eye peeled in that direction.
Regardless of how many nukes Israel has, in a nuclear exchange, Israel loses. All it takes is one dirty groundburst in Jerusalem, and the fallout will make the most populated section of Israel too radioactive to continue to live on
The problem is one side doesn't just want the west bank and gaza, they want Israel.
Great reply, thank your neighbor for his insights.
