These apologists tell us that the root cause of terrorism is the deprivation of national and civic rights, and that the way to stop terror is to redress the supposed grievances that arise from this deprivation.

But the root cause of terrorism, the deliberate targeting of civilians, is not the deprivation of rights. If it were, then in the thousands of conflicts and struggles for national and civil rights in modern times we would see countless instances of terrorism. But we do not.

Benjamin Netanyahu

Political Career

1979 - Initiated and organised international conference against terrorism
1982 - Assumes the position of Deputy Chief of Mission in the Israeli Embassy
1984 - Appointed Israel ambassador to the United Nations.
1988 - Elected to the 12th Knesset as a Likud member and appointed Deputy Foreign Minister.
1992 - Following the Likud Party's defeat, Netanyahu decisively defeated three other candidates for Likud Party head.
1995 - Accused of abetting, sedition and incitement against the government (allegations were refuted.)
1996 - Ousted Shimon Perez as Prime Minister in the election becoming the ninth and youngest Prime Minister of Israel.
Netanyahu gained 50.5% of the votes compared to Peres' 49.5% becoming the first Prime Minister to be elected directly and restoring the Likud Party to power.

Thanks for the post. Bebe is right as usual. The man is a sage of our times and has a knack of communicating in a direct, simplified, understandable way on most subjects.

The Israelis would be wise to re-elect him Prime Minister methinks. I was particularly impressed by his (needed) diplomacy in 'telling Dubya off' re the Powell debacle.
