The race is, at best, an uphill battle for the Democrats, who fear that if President Bush's popularity holds, it will boost their governor's numbers as well — ~~even~~ especially with the chadless, butterfly-free, high-tech voting machines now being tested to count more votes around the state.

IOW, the dims ain't figgered out how to commit voter fraud using the new systems yet.

They already have a weiner in the person of Janet El-Reno.

Asked why the Republican legislature changed the primary rules for this particular election, Susan MacManus, professor of government at the University of South Florida, said, "Because they could."

Did the NYT ask the lawmakers who wrote the law, or those who opposed it, or Florida voters why the law was changed? No, they asked some liberal professor who obviously has an ax to grind. Typical "balanced" reporting!

I approve of eliminating runoffs since they are unnecessary, and they cost taxpayers extra money to hold, and I think the majority of Florida voters would agree with me, not this professor.
