We need a billboard: "Welcome to Seattle: More Dead Rock Stars than you can shake a stick at..."
To: WDG55513
"When I tried drugs, they were (expletive) great, and they worked for me for years, and now they're turning against me -- and now I'm walking through hell, and this sucks." "
This is something every drug user should have tattooed on his forehead.

Another dead Druggie makes the country a safer place.

It's kind of sad when someone with talent, fame, enough money destroys themselves with drugs or alcohol. You have to wonder what drives them to that.

Scary's on the wall
Scary's on his way
Oo, watch where you spit.
I'd advise you wait until it's over.
Uh, then you got hit, and you shoulda known better.
And we die young.
Faster we run.
Down, down, down you're rollin'.
Watch the blood float in the muddy sewer.
Uh, take another hit and bury your brother.
And we die young.
Faster we run.

What a waste. Layne Staley, RIP.

. At the end of the day or at the end of the party, when everyone goes home, you're stuck with yourself."At least he figured that out.

It's too bad in a way. This was one of my favorite bands of all time. Layne's voice was excellent, and had quite a range. Still, people have been predicting this guy's death for years now, so it's not very surprising......and I don't see how his death makes the world that much safer....it's not like he was out beating the crap out of people or doing anything more than vegging in his house.

It's sad, but not surprising. Last I heard, he'd contracted gangrene in his arms from shooting up. Don't know if that's true, or even possible--but the whole idea doesn't give much weight to the phrase, "Better living through chemistry."
I doubt those who are drawn to the drug scene will wise up. The deaths of Jimi, Janis, Jim Morrison, all far greater talents than Layne Stanley, didn't have much effect on curbing the appetite for narcotics. People will always choose to medicate rather than face their problems, sadly.

Down In A HoleBury Me Softly In This Womb
I Give This Part Of Me For You
Sand Rains Down And Here I Sit
Holding Rare Flowers
In A Tomb.....In Bloom
Down In A Hole And I Don't Know
If I Can Be Saved
See My Heart I Decorate It
Like A Grave
You Don't Understand Who They
Thought I Was Supposed To Be
Look At Me Now A Man
Who Won't Let Himself Be
Down In A Hole, Losin' My Soul
Down In A Hole, Losin' Control
I'd Like To Fly
But My Wings Have Been So Denied
Down In A Hole And They've Put All
The Stones In Their Place
I've Eaten The Sun So My Tongue
Has Been Burned Of The Taste
I Have Been Guilty
Of Kicking Myself In The Teeth
I Will Speak No More
Of My Feelings Beneath
Oh I Want To Be Inside Of You
Down In A Hole, Losin' My Soul
Down In A Hole, Feelin' So Small
Down In A Hole, Losin' My Soul
Down In A Hole, Out Of Control
I'd Like To Fly
But My Wings Have Been So Denied

Would?
Know me broken by my master
Teach thee on child of love hereafter
Into the flood again
Same old trip it was back then
So I made a big mistake
Try to see it once my way
Drifting body it's sole desertion
Flying not yet quite the notion
Am I wrong?
Have I run too far to get home
Have I gone?
And left you here alone
If I would, could you?
RIP Layne.

What's really horrible also is he couldn't go on the road and let us hear his great Vocals in a Live Setting.I only heard the MTV thing several years ago.Talk about letting your emotions out in music. This guy did exactly that.He made you "FEEL IT".He and 'Andrew Wood'.Auughhhhhhhh!!!

Saw them open for Van Halen just after facelift was released. Never even heard of them but friend had me come along to an instore to get some stuff signed. I took in something of his - wish I would have had a cd to have them sign.
I agree, they are the best that seattle had in the early 90's. The songwriting, lyrics, performaces, and sound were and still are incredible.
At least jerry cantrell is still around-I believe he is the songwriting force behind the band. Now if Chris cornell would drop out of Rage against the machine and become the new AIC front man, I would be in musical heaven --- There would actually be some new music out there that I would buy.
