Here come the Christ kooks.

So, what you're saying is that if some of us believe in a set of values based on Biblical principles, then we have no place in this arguement and should shut our mouths? Is that REALLY what you believe??? If so, then you sound a lot like the libs on the other side, who tries to marginalize anyone they can who doesn't agree with them. Nice company huh?

You gays, lesbians, NAMBLA's, come on board.....Christians?, Back of the bus!!!!

People like this Cheney we do not need, her belief that gay marriage is a critical and unnegoitable issue already dooms her. She is at best, a RINO at worst, something far sinister. I always hear from these gay repubs, that they don't want any special treatment, they just want to be like everybody else, well, they're not like everybody else, if they think that being gay needs to be a special focus of there public persona. Hell Nader is as much a damn gay loving leftists as you'll find, but you don't see him talking about his lifestyle at all, whatever the hell it is.

I have no problem with ... historically when homosexuality became approved, it signaled the end of that civilzation ...

Hmm, sounds like you DO have a problem with those "civilization" ending homosexuals afterall.

"gay people come in all shapes and sizes, from all backgrounds and religions, and from every political shade and hue."

So do alcoholics.

Just noting that it is an indicator. There are others, including an overreaching government, which I am suprised, that you as a libertarian, support. Since it is government that imposes the restrictions on speech and grants special rights. I would think you would be opposed to government intrusion.

My problem is in the whole area of special rights and the resentment it breeds. There is a cause and effect when special rights are granted. Especially when moral issues are involved.

I have had homosexuals work for me in the military, well before don't ask... If they did their job and did not let it interfere with good order and discipline, no problem. I am curently working with homosexual. But in every case, they do not ask for more than anyone else and I treat them just as I treat anyone.

If you asked any male in the military, and many females, they may see woman differently because of a double standard. If I see a high ranking woman I wonder what standards were lowered for her, even if none were. I do not see the same with any male regardless of race, because they got there on merit. Treat everyone the same. The more government gets involved, the worse it will get.

However, the benefits of marriage should not be extended to homosexual partners.

There is where the rift will come. I think some in the GOP will completely reject this, while others will start to push for it.

Why do you care about where others "feel" you're going? Is that your problem with Christians? If it's just a bunch of hogwash, why should you care about that? Seems a bit thin-skinned to me.

I support homosexuals not being demonized or kept from jobs, simply because of their sexual orientation. But the right to legal "marriage", based only on what you do in the bedroom and with whom, is not acceptable. It is also, for me, non-negotiable.

Pokey, I agree somewhat, but the only way to "make sure they are not kept from jobs" is to grant them "status", ie protected class. If they are then "protected" does that mean that churches can be sued for not hiring enough of them, or for turning one down simply based upon that lifestyle? What about Billy Graham Ministries? What about a conservative business-owner that is in total disagreement with that lifestyle? What about private schools? Day cares?? These are heady questions that come shortly after we give them a special status.

BTW, I'm not naive to think that there aren't gays/lesbians in these positions already. But do we want to give them a RIGHT to HAVE TO BE HIRED in these jobs, even when they make public their private lifestyle?

THANKS for your kind comment.

I might have added--Christians could, most of the true Christians trying to love as Jesus did--for the most part, be quite charitable toward those who want to avoid shoving themselves and particularly their bedroom activities down anyone's throat. They wouldn't wan them teaching their children, working in their churches or other Christian organizations. But many would be reasonable about supporting equal pay for equal work and relatively equal opportunity to work otherwise.
