Other than being a defender of the supposed french backbone that really has not be shown since WWI, why do you think Americans should consider the French friends?

Oh no you don't.

The onus is firstly on you, bfree, to show why you're so keen to consider them enemies.

Apart from the sick pleasure of an anonymous spray of hate on the Internet, that is.

What's wrong with a nation full of beautiful women and men that you can easily defeat in a fistfight?

What, other than supporting people who want to kill us-Iraq, Iran, Lybia? They sold weapons to Lybia -missles that sank one of our ships. Denied Pres. Reagan's request to allow our planes to fly over France. Gee, I don't know why I might not consider the French our friend- maybe you can enlighten me with your worldly wisdom.

These would be the same French who built the Maginot Line? Hmmm. I believe these are also the same French who brought us Renault,The jerry lewis fan club and Messr.Petain. The French are ripe for scorn, they're current immersion in anti-semitism demands it.

It was a political defeat, not a military defeat. Today, Vietnam is a squalid, corrupt, tyrannical mess. So they won what?

Ill show you why we shouldnt be friends with the french; we give them space technology, but they wont buy our cars. Try this one, pulling out of NATO in 1966 as part of a KGB sting? This is a personal favorite;not letting F-111's fly over France because they feared Libyan retaliation for the strike, and after the denial of flying rights, suffered the same Lockerbie type attack in the Chad desert 6 mos later by the same people they were afraid of offending!

You are too kind. But I wouldn't dream of unworthily accepting an award which rightly has been yours for the past 20 years.

And BTW, #@%& the Queen, ye descendent of convicts.....

If you presently are in the USA, do let the door hit hit you on the bum on your way to your beloved Francais.

And if you are in the Land of Down-Underwear, please stay there, ye sympathbizer of America's Franco-adversary....

Big deal. The CIA gave weapons to the Taliban. The CIA trained Palestinian 'police' snipers.

You sure you really want to go down this track, bfree?

NOW, we're getting to it.

It really gets on your wick that they've maintained their own independent culture, eh, Cardinal?

They're no 'adversary', Tracer. You hate the French 'cause they're different, that's all.

...according to such figures as Theodore Zeldin of Oxford and Robert O. Paxton of Columbia University, the French resistance was pretty ineffectual and its size largely mythological. There certainly were resisters. I know people who risked their lives in the struggle, but they were the exception rather than the rule....

Oh.

You...'know people who risked their lives', but they were....'pretty ineffectual.'

If there's ever a competition for 'Biggest BS Artist On FR' you're a cert, Milburn.

I'll be happy to go there. You still haven't given me one reason I should consider the French a friend to America.

...frankly,I'm concerned for my safety and that of my parents but Sophia's brother Nicky has assured me that he still has the AK-47s and ammo clips....

Puh-leez. You and Nicky going to take out a few Pallies, after the wedding?

Put your borderline hysteria and emotional baggage to one side for a moment and stick to the facts, Milburn. Which are, that countless French men and women risked and lost their lives fighting the Nazis, while your grandfather was baking in Queens. Here's one example every Australian knows :

Nancy Wake was the Allies' most decorated servicewoman of WWII, and the Gestapo’s most-wanted person. They code-named her 'The White Mouse'. When war broke out she was a young woman married to a wealthy Frenchman living a life of luxury in cosmopolitan Marseilles. She became a saboteur and Resistance fighter who led an army of 7,000 Maquis troops in guerrilla warfare to sabotage the Nazis. Her story is one of daring, courage and optimism in the face of impossible odds.
