It's quite blustery here today, I was out watching the hawks playing on the streams of air earlier.

One of the best bird shows I ever saw happened a few years ago in the fall. Two crows were pestering a great horned owl all morning. Later in the day the owl set down a long branch of an old tree on the hillside. One of the crows plopped down at the end of the branch and would periodically step a little closer and squauk. After ~10min the owl took one big hop, swung that great big left wing and smacked that crow for a home run. It tumbled so fast that old crow didn't know which way was up and he banged right into the hillside. He shook it off and flew away never looking back...and the owl just sat there for the rest of the afternoon.

Great story! It's a wonder that the owl just didn't eat the crow -- must not have been very hungry, or must have been a smaller owl.

I live on the Bayou and it is a great show. I think I've figured out our little corner of the world. We have a very mean Hawk here. He attacked one of the little birds swooped down and picked it up. I scremed and he dropped it. Then shortly afterwards the Blackbirds were yelling their heads off. I walked back into the woods and heard the Hawk. So I figured a riot was in progress.

Then when I was feeding the squirrels, inoticed they were sharing thier food with the blackbirds and other critters. It dawned on me. The Hawk is the criminal, the Blackbirds are the cops, and the squirrels, woodpeckers, little red birds and bluebirds are the citizens.

I know my life is getting really scarey.

The best bird show in my life happened in Oregon one spring when a small trout was plucked out of the the lake by an seagull. The 10"trout was flipping around on the ice and an osprey came down grabbing the trout in mid flip with the right foot. The seagull was scared backwards and fell on it's butt all the while flapping it's wings trying to regain it's footing. When it did finally stand again it looked at the ice the the osprey and just hung its head in despair. My wife and I laughed for ten minutes.
