At first glance, I thought it said La Plata, MO, and I was going to debunk it! There were only funnel clouds in LaPlata MO last night. (Yes, there is a La Plata MO) That was one heckuva storm system.

This is terrible, any time a tornado rips through a populated area the damage is usually unbelievable. Hope there aren't more casualties :-(

Tis storm system came through Southern Indiana last night around 1:30, where I live anyway. We had a small tornado about 1/2 mile from my house. Many of the neighbors trees are down and yard barns gone and a tractor overturned. No injuries or houses bothered, though. I'm praying for those who suffered losses. It was a violent storm system, even at 1:30 AM.

Go here for weather radar loop: La Plata NEXRAD - Base Reflectivity Loop

The loop indicates that it is headed my way. I'm about five miles south of Delaware on the MD Atlanticf coast. Starting to see the lightening and hearing the thunder.

Late this afternoon weather bulletins announced a tornado sighting about 30 miles south of Buffalo NY and heading east. Verrrrrry unusual for this area. Nothing much up here north of Buffalo but maybe a little snow tomorrow night!

How can that be - I thought MD was north of D.C. I flew to Baltimore last spring, and we were north of D.C.

Maryland surrounds 3/4 of DC. Virginia gets the last quarter. La Plata is in Southern Maryland (Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's counties.)

MD and VA are next to each other. Baltimore is North of DC, but there's a lot of MD South of DC. There's even good size chunks of Virginia East of DC, and on and on.

These states "share" the Potomac.

The Weather Channel just tried to contact a reporter in the area. Over a broken cell phone connection, all I heard was, "Total devastation..."
