Teachers unions try to use Sept. 11 as an excuse for bad schools.

NEW YORK--Is Sept. 11 an excuse for bad schools? That's the question that New York politicians will soon decide.

Democratic legislators and state teacher unions are pushing the argument that the attack's aftershocks on the state budget should block the opening of any new charter schools--independent public schools that operate with more flexibility and freedom--for two years. "Charter schools drain precious resources from public schools," says Assemblyman Paul Tonko, an upstate Democrat. "This extraction of funds could result in multimillion-dollar shortfalls for local school systems." His bill would stop the opening of a dozen charter schools in the state that have already been approved for operation. To date, only 32 charter schools have been allowed to open, in part because of bureaucratic resistance.

Typical liberal excuse. Blame failure on an a completely unrelated event. The day after Andrea Yates murdered her 5 kids, Ted Kennedy mouthed off that the tragedy would have been avoided if Congress had passed a Patient's Bill of Rights. If you didn't hear about it, that's because the media buried it faster than Juanita Broaderick.

Remember The Ten Planks of Socialism, well it is just one of them that the Socialist DemocRATS want to force down our throats in controlling us.

Tenth Plank: Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children’s factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production. And the other Nine are as POSTED BELOW (Beware of the Wolfe in Sheep’s Clothing):

============================

First Plank:

Abolition of property in land and the application of all rents of land to public purposes.

Second Plank:

A heavy progressive or graduated in-come tax.

Third Plank: Abolition of all rights of inheritance.

Fourth Plank:

CONFISCATION OF THE PROPERTY OF ALL EMIGRANTS AND REBELS.

Fifth Plank:

Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.

Sixth Plank:

Centralization of the means of communications and transportation in the hands of the State.

Seventh Plank:

Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State, the bringing into cultivation of wastelands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan. Eighth Plank: Equal liability of all to labor. Establishment of industrial armies especially for agriculture.

Ninth Plank:

Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries, gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equitable distribution of population over the country.

New York City schools were the best in the country when I went to them. Now they're something parents flee from.

In the case of my small Westchester town we can flee all we like but we're still expected to foot the bill for thepublic school to the tune of $20,000.00 per student, per year. And this is for a school where only 67% of the 8th graders pass the standardized tests. That means it's 20K per student, per year, for a failing school!

Kind of takes the wind out of the "we just need adequate funding" argument. Thanks NEA.

NY is really going to loosen the rules for homeschoolers. The bill has already passed in the Senate. Look for a huge increase in homeschoolers in NY state when parents find out they don't have to jump through all the hoops their predecessors did. NY will become one of the friendliest homeschooling states in the nation.
