Learn about Israel's birth from a witness

Edited on 04/13/2004 3:36:28 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I read Robin Halloum's March 20 commentary, "For Palestinians, the real terror began in 1948" with disappointment. The history of Israel had been rewritten.

Halloum was not there at the birth of Israel -- I was. I celebrated when the United Nations decreed in 1947 that two states be established out of the British Mandate known as Palestine -- a Jewish state (Israel) and an Arab state on the West Bank and Gaza.

I can't explain the surprising victory of the Israeli Defense Forces,..."

I can - The Holy One of Israel was on your side.

Absolutely. As God prophesied He would be in the latter days. To bring Israel back into their land He gave to Abraham forever.

Really great links, Bobby. Thanks so much! It amazes me the people who cling to the incorrect teaching of "Dispacement Theology". It doesn't hold a drop of water the minute you begin to search the Scriptures.

I've had many debates with people here about God's permanent, unconditional, eternal promises to Israel, but when you show them the scriptures to prove it, they quickly resort to personal attacks and name calling. It's sad. Anyway, thanks again for the links.

yep, Israel's not going away this time ... and the push of the Arab states and Kofi Annan's of the world who would like to eliminate them, will result, unfortunately, with a climax at the Valley of Megiddo ... Armageddon ... after the 7 years that is ... it seems more unavoidable as these events and articles indicate ...

What many people don't remember is that, from 1948 to 1967, after the Arab war against Israel, the West Bank became a part of Jordan and Gaza became a part of Egypt. In the 20 years when these territories were in Arab hands, there was no condemnation by the United Nations of the "Arab occupation" of "Palestine."

Shout it from the rooftops. Good article, short and to the point.

You are exactly right! There were stories from that war which were unbelievable to most, but not to me. In one instance, there appeared to be thousands of soldiers surrounding this one encampment of the enemy. The enemy was so terrified, they just threw down their weapons and ran away in fear. It turned out the actual contingent was only 600 men. Where did the "thousands" come from?? Only GOD!

Remember the statement, "there is more that be with us than be with them". When GOD opened their eyes, they could see "thousands" of soldiers surrounding them.

Another good movie about this event starred Paul Neuman. It was called, "Exodus". I think you can still find it in the movie rental places. This story, however, is mostly about the events leading up to Israel being declared a state. The war which ensued, was only briefly covered.

This movie, however, did show how the Palestinians who befriended the Israelis were cruely killed; but not by Israel.

Well ... the battle in the Valley of Megiddo is WWIII, not Armageden - and WWIII will only last a few days - that's because GOD knows how to throw rocks. Also, this war will usher in the "final harvest" and the removal of the church from the earth.

Armagedden will not take place until after the church exits the earth. I do believe the scriptures are clear, the church will return with the Lord to the earth for Armagedden.

How can the church return with the Lord for WWIII at the Valley of Megiddo when the church hasn't left yet??

I don't know that we disagree ... since my belief is that the first part of Gog-Magog, the failed invasion, occurs as World War III and not necessarily Armageddon ... so again I still state 7 years of Tribulation ... does my previous post not indicate that Armageddon is the final battle? ... there is the Valley of Hamon-Gog, where Gog falls ... and there is the Valley of Megiddo, the Valley of Jezreel, the Valley of Jehosophat, etc. ... there are those that think they're the same ... I'm not convinced that *all* of Ezekiel 38-39 is Revelation 19, though the very end may in fact be ... FWIW ...

Thanks for your post. I find it interesting that I never heard the delay for entering Jenin was due to disarming booby traps and such. Maybe the media reported it and I never noticed.

Go figure, French Journalist trying to help a terrorist escape....

"Halloum describes the Israeli army of those days as a "mighty force." I was a lieutenant in the Israeli Defense Forces in 1948, and I still recall the rifles we received from Czechoslovakia, many of which misfired. Our ammunition had noodles instead of gunpowder in the bullets. The armies that attacked Israel -- Iraqi, Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian -- were well trained, well equipped and determined to push the Israelis into the sea."

Right right. And, I should note, the Jordanian army was trained and led by the British (look up 'Glubb Pasha') and had very current british weaponry....the Egyptians also had the latest British AND U.S. weapons.
