Difficult to argue against at best incomptetence in the White House, and at worse something like complacency.

"The report, entitled the "Sociology and Psychology of Terrorism: Who Becomes a Terrorist and Why?," described the suicide hijacking as one of several possible retribution attacks Al Qaeda might seek for the 1998 U.S. airstrike against bin Laden's camps in Afghanistan. It was not immediately known what action, if any, had been taken by the Clinton administration in response to the report."

Doesn't matter what the Clinton administration did or didn't do. The Bush administration should have totally ignored the mess of EO's and Chinese USDOD infiltration in Washington, (etc.) and spent their first seven and a half months in Washington poring over eight years of accumulated terrorist intelligence.

After all, Time magazine had an article on this report in 1998. Our government should have dropped EVERYTHING in order to concentrate on it.

I, like many FReepers, am disappointed and disgusted by the Bush administration for concentrating on trivia like US sercivemen and military roconaissance planes held hostage in hostile territory, taxes, the economy and what constitutes a living, breathing human being, among other unimportant things, when they SHOULD have been preparing for 9-11.

If by that you mean the Clinton White House, I couldn't agree more.

As for the Bush White House, a plan for dismantling al-Qaeda was on his desk two days before the September 11 attacks, hardly the picture of smug complacency or casual indifference.

Oh... Time Magazine, great publication.

I'd put it right up there with Mad Magazine.

Go bite a fart!

I was against formation of a whole new branch of gov., or new bureaucracy anyway - Homeland Security.... But now I see the FBI, CIA, White House, Congress, Senate NEEDS a central clearing house for important news breaks and leads to stop terrorist attacks like 9/11. The right hand has to know what the left hand is doing. Clinton knew that, what his hand was doing, but it wasn't doing foreign affairs, it was doing "intern" affairs! For 8 years almost nothing was done. Clinton left a huge mess behind for Bush to clean up.

"he would never do anything knowingly to hurt his country"

Of course, the Democrats know that this is true. But truth means nothing to them.

Democrats will stop at nothing.

The Democrat Party: America at its most immoral. The sleazy, decadent dark side of America.

Looks like the partnership of the far-left and far-right have gotten what they wanted.
The White House is on the defensive, taking time and resources away from real problems and real investigations.

On the other hand Clinton was send a warning by the Philipines in 1995 that this would happen and he just chose to send it to the Congress and they did absolutely nothing

"Latest approval ratings back up to 80%"

Which explains all the Bush bashers who've suddenly come out to rant and rave in the past week.

If Clinton had deigned to meet with the Defense Dept once in a while, it might have helped.

Only TWO DAYS before???

The fact is that Clinton was warned in 1995 by the Philipines that Al Qaeda was planning to fly planes into the WTC and the CIA Headquarters and he just send it to the congress.

Here's the proof

Yes, you are correct. The Clinton administration was not only warned of a planned attack involving hijacked airliners, but had confiscated laptops to prove it. I remember the reports.

So what? It's President Bush's fault his administration didn't stop the 9-11 attack back in 1995. After all, President Bush is responsible for everything that has happened to this country in the past 50 years.

The fact is that in 1995, the Clinton Administration had this detailed information. In 1998, two foreign countries offered UBL to us on a silver platter. They practically BEGGED Clinton to take Usmama off their hands. The Clinton administration MADE NO plan to stop al Qaeda during the 5 years they had TO MAKE a plan.
