Speaking to a crowd of approximately 500 pro-Israel supporters who gathered in front of Palo Alto city hall, Tom Lantos (D) San Mateo gave credit and praise to Texas republican Tom Delay for cosponsoring a recently passed House resolution to express solidarity with Israel in its fight against terrorism.
Lantos opened his remarks by asking for a moment of silence to honor both the dead Israeli civilians in latest terrorist suicide bombing, as well as the American special forces soldier who was killed in eastern Afghanistan.
Other speakers at the informative two hour rally included Gil Lanier from the Israeli consulate, Joseph Wahed an Egyptian jew, and Isaac Goldstein, a student leader at San Francisco State University.
Along with the speeches, there was music and dance performed by local youth groups. Several pro-Israel aid and information groups had booths set up as well. While the weather threatened, the atmosphere at the rally remained upbeat and there was no evidence of any PLO counter-protesters.
The event, sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Counsel (JCRC), is one of several pro-USA, pro-Israel events planned for the bay area in coming weeks.

I will now step outside my building to see if it is actually raining cats and dogs...
(Actually, it's a good thing that somebody like Lantos can at least admit Republican
aren't always on oppossing team...)

Lol..yes, I was (pleasantly) suprised myself. I'm not sure how many in attendance realized that Lantos was referring to the notorious 'Hammer', but we FReepers did!

There'll be a pro-Israel rally/celebration Sunday, June 2 at Yerba Buena Gardens (Mission St. between 3rd and 4th Streets
in San Francisco. 12-5 PM)
To: American Preservative
there were about five anti US protesters...with honk for peace or something signs. I didn't hear any honking, but I'm sure there was plenty that day, since they were right across the street from stanf
Urd university.
Dunno who they were, but they were all in their mid 30s-early 40s.

Hello from Carol/nastypumps! Am just itching to get back into the fray. Who's going to be at 6/2 Yerba Buena pro-Israel rally? I'd love to meet up again with new Freep buds from 4/20 SF City Hall team (mac_truck; Counter-CounterCulture; deeel-me-in, Drango & the other brave Americans whose net names I don't know.)

Hi nastypumps, all - June 2 at Yerba Buena Gardens is really supposed to be a celebration/rally (unless of course, if the Leftists/PLOers show up).
Israel in the Gardens
It'd be great to see everyone again. : )

Delay and Lantos? Did I just step into some parallel universe?
To: American Preservative
Ack! Sundays are hard for me to get off unless I get enough of a heads-up to request that day off well in advance.
To: CounterCounterCulture
Geez, CCC, isn't 10 days advance enough?! (Just kidding! Do hope you can make it, if you want.) : )
And, hey, according to Savage, according to our "leaders," a nuke/sumthin' can be expected at any time (gee, thanks for protectin' US)....so, hey, gotta party before we go! : )
To: McGavin999
Delay and Lantos? Did I just step into some parallel universe? Well, on this issue they're both on the same side, and Lantos acknowleged him in his speech. (ain't bipartisanship grand?)
I'd like to see conservative support for Israel translate into something more substantive, like increased jewish support for other conservative issues. But I'm not holding my breath.
