My guess is that he would have had to do more than put branches and leaves over her to cover the smell of rotting flesh.

The only reason he didn't kill his last victim is that she got away from him. Its not as though he grabbed - say- her walkman and left her trembling.

The other known park assault (in May) there was a big ruckus and fight. In the struggle, her walkman fell clear (he didn't take it) The reports on that first one indicate he thought someone was coming and that if he didn't leave the scene, he might get caught.

Why would Chandra go to a place she had never been before, to jog on her last day or days in DC? She looked up the place on the internet, she wouldn't have to do that if she had been there before. Where did she usually jog?

Good points all. Also, Condit volunteered 10K for her return as though he KNEW she wasn't returning. He was so confidant that her body would never be found. Of course, he showed that he was just plan, incredibly arrogant as a personality trait.

So who picked her up? And why wouldn't that person have gone to the police with this information?

Good question. Friend would have come forward and spoken up. Taxi driver, one would hope would come forward, it's not like her picture hasn't been everywhere. Even a bus driver one would hope would come forward. Whoever picker her up is involved.... one way or another.

And further why hasn't Condit ever come up with a precise accounting of what he was doing that day? If i remember correctly his people initially put out incorrect info and to this day it is still vague.

You are correct, heard someone yesterday address this, but I can't remember who, perhaps Rita Crosby.

Where did she usually jog?

At a health club where her membership would have ended on April 30, the day before she apparently was killed.

She looked up the place on the internet

Let's not forget this detail.

If it was him, then she would have been the first victim. And usually if you kill your first victim, you're going to kill the rest. If this guy is a serial killer, he is either really dumb or those two other women were a lot stronger than him.

Then again, we won't know what happened until the autopsy comes out. Betcha 100-1 that Condit's lawyers fed this story to the paper..it is Roll Call, the Congressional newpaper. Wouldn't that be a bit ODD?

there were no clothes hanging in the closet or folded in the bureau. She was packed to go home.

Have her keys been found? Could someone else have done this after she was murdered to throw the investigation?

Eventually a trail-wanderer brings a dog in the area who finds the remains. The only reason he didn't kill the first victim seems to be that he thought someone was coming. The only reason he didn't kill the first one after he got her off the trail with a hand over her mouth, is that she got away.

A man with a knife doesn't inflict any bodily harm on either of two victims, despite the fact that he's already supposedly killed one before that? He rolls down the hill with one, a knife at her throat, and the story doesn't mention that there were any wounds?

Murderers are dangerous fugitives because once they've killed, they have nothing to lose by killing again -- yet this guy didn't even inflict any serious wounds on his next two victims? There's no physical description of the two victims, BTW, so comparing them to Levy's physique is a non-starter -- for all we know, they were as petite, or more so, than Levy.

Clinton? Who is Clinton? I have vaguely heard that name mentioned, but who is this guy? ;>)

And besides everything he has done since the time of her death has struck me and many others as being exactly what a guilty man would do (ie, lie and throw away potential evidence) instead of of what a normal person would do in order to help find out what happened to a friend/lover. So to me Condit remains very much the prime suspect.

I agree. But just to throw cold water on the theory that THIS guy had anything to do with Chandra's death...heh, the DC police are now warning reporters not to put to much stock in this theory.

I mean, come on, if the cops are outright now saying to pay this no mind than I go with the cops.

Clinton is the guy whose whereabouts are totally unaccounted for for several days before May 2, 2001.

I suppose this Guandeque commited the Starbucks murders, too?

Crikey, that case was solved a long time ago...get with the program.

Actually, as a resident of the Dupont Circle area, I must side with the out-of-towner on this one. There's still that unsolved Starbucks murder re the Starbucks at R & Connecticut. That Asian-American woman who worked as a lawyer for the EPA? But I'm generally with the program here: even if there is a serial something out there, I don't believe in coincidences. I think Conduit did this. It's just not a coincidence that he got rid of her just when his wife was coming to town, just when it was important to, just when he had his last opportunity to, just when Chandra told her aunt she had some big news, etc etc.

Yes, it isn't as if she jogged there all that often, if at all. If it was a place she went to a lot, why would she need a map? I would assume that there would be signs in the park leading you to where the Klingle Mansion is, no?

And another thing...Gary Condit has DISAPPEARED off the face of the earth. His lawyer was suppossed to make a statement at 1:00pm. Then he cancelled. Condit was suppossed to use a boat? today, no sight of him as of yet. WHERE IS HE?? WHY IS HE HIDING FROM THE PRESS? WHAT IS HE HIDING FROM THE PRESS?

We don't know that. Others have apparently disappeared.

I will be glad when we can stop speculation about her "burial" conditions, or if she was buried at all. Yesterday, the remains WERE found to have about a foot thick covering of leaves and some soil, with evidence that the top layer of leaves had been there since they fell in November. The terrain and might have been helpful in trapping and/or diverting smells. The scent may have carried away from the trail. Also, bodies smell, but the rate and type of decay can make that vary. She might have turned to soap in the heat. That makes the fat smell less. There might have been a natural depression in the ground that served as a shallow grave and made covering her easier. If the killer used the loamy stuff on the ground it would have worked like loose soil. Perhaps by the time they searched she was already skeletal. (In DC heat and humidity, that can take as little as two weeks with the help of insects)

She still did not have her travel plans....so, she was packed, probably with not much to do, and went out for a walk --probably not a jog, since she had a backpack and, if on foot, was going to walk 4-6 miles. She had cancelled her membership the day before, so she was "stuck" being outside for her exercise.
