One of the worst areas for this kind of mischief is this absurdly post-Vatican II concocted pre-Cana marriage prep industry

Actually, Pre-Cana began in the pre-Vatican era, and is a minimal, one afternoon session touching briefly on sex, finances, Church teaching on marriage.

Of much more value is the assignment of a couple to an already-married couple, who meets with them three-five times and uses a questionnaire filled out by the couple as the basis for discussion. My wife and I do this, and it has been positive for every couple in some way.

Don't you agree that some kind of marriage preparation is valuable, and that it ought to include some folks other than the priest?

I trust it's not just the way you nudge-nudge wink-wink at the Church's teaching on artificial birth control.

Seems to depend a lot on the diocese and the mentality and education of the people involved.
