That is a good question.
I have two more also.
Why did it take a month to swear Mueller in as FBI Director after he had been confirmed?
Why is the excuse used ..."Mueller had only been Director for days before 9/11 YET no one mentions he had been Acting Deputy Director of the DOJ from January through May?
He took a 6 week vacation so to speak and came back to head the FBI and everyone acts like he dropped into DC July 5th and didnt know anything about anything.

Mr. LEAHY. Madam President, I have moved swiftly in the Judiciary Committee to consider and move forward the nomination of Robert S. Mueller, III, to be Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
His nomination was sent to the Senate on July 18 but his paperwork was not completed until July 24. Less than one week later, we held 2 days of hearings, on July 30 and 31, and made sure that the committee considered his nomination the same week, on August 2, in order to ensure committee and Senate consideration of this important nomination before the August recess. The committee unanimously and favorably reported this nomination. I thank the Democratic and Republican members of the committee for their cooperation and attention in allowing this nomination to move forward on an expedited basis. Mr. Mueller has had an outstanding career in law enforcement, serving as a Federal prosecutor in three different United States Attorneys' Offices and in Main Justice under both Republican and Democratic administrations. As he testified at his confirmation hearing, he has ``either personally prosecuted or supervised the prosecution of just about every type of Federal Criminal offense, including homicide, drug trafficking, organized crime, cyber crime, major frauds, civil rights and environmental crime.´´
Mr. Mueller was the only witness at his hearings. The committee did not call other witnesses we are in the midst of intensive and ongoing FBI oversight hearings. These FBI oversight hearings were an integral part of the committee's preparation to consider the nomination of a new FBI Director, and Mr. Mueller's opening statement at his confirmation hearings specifically addressed significant issues raised in the prior hearings.
At the oversight hearing on June 20, 2001, the committee examined both outside oversight mechanisms and methods to restore confidence in the FBI.
Witnesses included former Senator John C. Danforth, who investigated the events at Waco as Special Counsel to the Attorney General; the Honorable William H. Webster, former FBI and CIA Director, currently heading a review of FBI security in the aftermath of the Hanssen espionage case; Glenn A. Fine, current Inspector General of the Department of Justice; Michael R. Bromwich, former Inspector General of the Department of Justice; and Norman J. Rabkin, Managing Director, Tax Administration and Justice Issues, General Accounting Office.
At the oversight hearing on July 18, 2001, the committee considered the reform of FBI management with views from inside and outside the FBI. Witnesses included Raymond W. Kelly, former New York City Police Commissioner and Commissioner of the U.S. Customs Service; Bob E. Dies, FBI Assistant Director for Information Resources; Kenneth H. Senser, Acting FBI Deputy Assistant Director for Security Programs and Countermeasures; John E. Roberts, Unit Chief, FBI Office of Professional Responsibility; John Werner, former Supervisory Special Agent, FBI Office of Professional Responsibility; Frank L. -- The Senate voted unanimously Thursday to confirm Robert Mueller as FBI director.
The Senate vote was 98-0 to approve Mueller for a 10-year term, the same day the Senate Judiciary Committee recommended his confirmation. The 56-year-old veteran prosecutor was President Bush's pick to lead the bureau. He told the Judiciary Committee during a two-day confirmation hearing that his top priority would be to "restore the public's confidence in the FBI, to re-earn the faith and trust of the American people."
Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont, the Judiciary Committee's chairman, said Mueller should be prepared to "clean house if necessary."

Washington, July 5 US PRESIDENT George W Bush on Friday nominated Justice Department veteran Robert Mueller as head of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), an administration official said.
His task is to restore prestige of FBI, which has suffered from a string of embarrassments ranging from bungled documents to the discovery of a spy for the Russians in its midst, the official said. The news follows intense speculation about whom Bush would pick to replace Louis Freeh, who announced his resignation on May 1, well in advance of the end of his term set for 2003.
Mueller, who served as acting deputy attorney general from January to May, serves as US Attorney in San Francisco. He had previously headed homicide division of the US Attorney's office here.
If confirmed by the Senate, Mueller gets a ten-year term.

Israeli Prime Minister Rabin offered Israeli assistance in the OKC bombing investigation to the US a few days after the bombing. President Clinton rejected the Israeli offer. At the time, Rabin’s terrorism advisor, Yigal Carmon, described to US journalists a known Hamas terrorist cell in OKC which the Israeli’s suspected in the OKC bombing. Israel sent bomb experts to OKC and they concluded that the damage to the Murrah Building was likely caused by a device that Middle Eastern terrorists had helped McVeigh construct.

This is very disturbing to read in hindsight... The question we are asking..."WHO knew what and WHEN"...we might be better off asking WTF was Clinton doing for 8 years and why didn't he do ANYTHING to protect this country!

The part about the uniqueness of the OKC bomb is a real eye opener if true. Does anyone else have another source for that? Just because McVeigh was the grunt that drove the truck, it has now been shown that the Islamic terrorists have access to other blue eyed recruits. Johhny Walker comes to mind.

I believe Clinton did know exactly what happened in OKC and who was responsible for it, but in an effort to snatch (?) camera time biting his lip and feeling thier pain he decided it would play much better, with Monica and Impeachment in the works and Paula Jones breathing down his neck, to have some right wing skin head liberation front flunky (who had converted to Islam during Desert Storm), take the blame.
George Stephenopolis said as much on a TV news show (I think, can't remember which show) when he said they ran to the War Situation Room and Clinton said "not another terrorist bombing" or some such statement. He knew. He played it for all it was worth. There was no mention of this on any other news source. I have seen it referred to here.

And if that's not enough, what about THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES?
I truly wonder about this. Is it somehow related to the fact that people don't want to even consider the possibilty that Timothy McVeigh didn't plan the OKC bombing? Is is that they don't want to consider the possibility that McVeigh went to his death with information that might have prevented future terrorism? Remember, nobody is saying he was innocent or had no responsibility for the bombing.
I just wonder, given the massive screwups we've seen at the FBI, and the fact that his attorneys tried so hard to prove a Middle Eastern connection to the case.
Why is is so impossible McVeigh was not the "mastermind" he made himself out to be?
If anyone read "American Terrorist" they should note that one big question McVeigh did not even attempt to answer was how he learned to build such a massive, destructive bomb without out a college education or any real experience with explosives.
Given all of this, is it so difficult to see that some might ponder why John Ashcroft was in such a rush to see McVeigh executed? Talk about the Emperor's new clothes.

One must not forget who built the FBI and used its files for his own vendettas. It is a legacy of CYA and protect the (Clinton) administration. JEH hated Bobby Kennedy and would have done anything to sink the Kennedys. Unfortunately he lost his teeth just about then and was forced into retirement. The CIA is just a corrupt in thier intelligence hoarding as the FBI. It is time for a reorganization. The dems are playing with fire, seeing as both organizations have been under Clinton corruption for years also.

My bet is that since nothing seems to be sticking to Bush Jr, the dems are going further back than Clinton, their Going for X41. If they can tie "Dad" in on anything and I mean anything at all, it will give them a stage to begin a "birds of a feather" smear campagne..
Now, this is pure speculation (at it's worst most likely). But X41 is a goood target for them. X42 stills enjoys his lovefest with teh media. He is their darling and always will be...So it shouldn't be too hard to supress further info on the scumbag as they skip by him on the road to Bush Sr.
