No....13,000 feet. It is at the upper limit of it's range. The whole series of events(especially Kallstrom's behavior) had that "thou protests too much" smell.

Well I have my own thoughts on this, but I will keep them to myself.

While I would not be surprised that a missile shot 800 down. I'm a little puzzled as to why in the last six years there have not been more shoot-downs. Such attacks could occur in areas that would have had far more witnesses and far less deniability. It just seems to me that an organization capable of the 9-11 assaults could have easily smuggled in many such weapons. I'd have expected it to rain airplanes in the wake of 9-11, a perfect 1-2 punch. Planes as missiles, missiles at planes. The flying public would be terrified out of their collective wits, and no amount of baggage scanning would have solved this one.

It would seams to me that a lack of proper publicity from a first shoot-down would drive them to attempt more, higher profile attempts. As 9-11 proves, the idea that somehow the US intelligence community has stopped other attempts on airliners, and somehow kept it quiet, rings hollow at best.

Plus, from a political perspective, the flight 800 thing did happened on Klintoon’s watch. It would seem to my cynical little mind that this would be the perfect time to come clean about it, if it was indeed shot down by a missile. "Hey, Senator Clinton, what did you know about the shooting down of Flight 800, and when did you know it? "
