The Oregon Democratic Party is still attacking KXL (Portland) and KUGN (Eugene), the stations that carry Savage, Medved, and Lars Larson, because they disagree with them.
Now I know there are a lot of Freepers who dislike Savage, but we are all free to turn the dial at any time. I like Savage myself, especially his style, even if I don't always agree with him (for instance, he is a supporter of unions), because I think his show is fun to listen to. When I'm listening and the girls are with me, rather than demand I turn to the top 20 hip-hop crap station as they normally would, they find themselves listening too.

But hey, what is this Mark Oldham saying? Savage causes school bullying. And trying to use the U of O sports program as a wedge to get radio programs he doesn't like off of KUGN. Well, the U of O that he refers to is the Ducks (if you have not heard of them you have spent the last 5 years in a cave), not the local liberal arts college. It is a huge business, backed by the full faith and credit of Nike, and very nearly 100% of the prominent local businesses. The Ducks demand to be played on stations with a lot of listeners, and we listeners of talk radio, when not fortunate enough to have tickets to the game, at least don't have to turn the dial to catch it on the radio (know what I'm saying?). The program director of this station (Jerry Allen) is also an employee of the Ducks, he does the play by play on the football games and hosts other special Ducks programming. The only other station in town that would qualify to be the Ducks' flagship carries Rush, Reagan, Dr. Laura, and the former conservative host known as Art Bell. If the Ducks move, Jerry will move with them, and he'll probably take at least Savage and Larson with him.

Just as Oldham fails to understand the cause of school bullying, he knows little of the radio business.

Dave in Eugene (talk radio listener and employee of a "prominent local businessman" with a large block of DUCK FOOTBALL tickets!)

"National Association of Social Workers"

Are they related to the Socialist Workers, maybe the National Socialists?
They obviously don't believe in freedom of speech.

The word "hate" was mentioned 9 times in this article. That's nine more times than I've heard it used in the hundreds of hours I've spent listening to conservative radio programs.

Who, exactly, is promoting hate?

People of color, immigrants, religious minorities and gay and lesbians have been the targets of hate radio

That's funny. I thought it was Bill & Hillary Clinton who were the targets of our hate. Go figure.

Remember...any opinion that rejects the left is "hate". Their ideas and ideology is so lame that they can't tollerate ANY ideas that are counter to theirs. These people will raise their voices instead of reinforcing their arguments.

People of color, immigrants, religious minorities and gay and lesbians have been the targets of hate radio...as opposed to majority whites, patriots, the Catholic church, and heteros who are doubtless the targets of the hatred of whatever imbecile wrote this diatribe.....

People of color, immigrants, religious minorities and gay and lesbians have been the targets of hate radio. These actions help foster a negative atmosphere where school bullying, hate crimes and other antisocial behavior can occur.

Mr. Oldham shows his ignorance by trying to link school bullying, hate crimes and other antisocial behavior to "hate radio". These problems have existed for a very long time in our society, long before what he refers to as "hate radio" ever hit the airwaves.

Conservatives have traditionally too busy/lazy/tired/uninspired/distracted/etc. to fight for what they believe in. That's why liberalism has succeeded (and advanced) for so long.

Liberals understand the POWER that the talk-radio medium has had over the last 30+ years. They realize they can't lie/spin/cheat/distort on the radio and get away with it. It is the original (and most effective) NO-SPIN Zone!!! THat's why they want (NEED?) to destroy it.

I believe that this is the opening salvo in a highly organized, meticulously detailed plan by the highest ranking liberals/commies/socialists/etc. I predict there will be a smear campaign to end all smear campaigns in the near future. This is a test run. Will we conservatives FINALLY get the nerve to not only fight them, but to decisively defeat them and silence them on this issue?

We NEED talk radio, even more than they NEED to destroy it! Let's smash them right here right now!!!

Savage causes school bullying.

Probably. I wonder what would happen to kids wearing "Savage Nation" hats to school.

Hey left-wingers: I love Michael Savage and Sean Hannity. They are a breath of fresh air after all of the crap you see and hear from the mainstream media.

"People of color, immigrants, religious minorities and gay and lesbians have been the targets of hate radio"........as have White, Christians and Conservatives been the target of "Hate" by the Left. When they clean up their own hate speech perhaps there can be dialogue.

ROTFLMAO!!!

Trying to demonize talk-radio in the eyes of non-talk-radio listeners.

I am concerned that the University of Oregon has its sporting events broadcast on the same station that supports and promotes bigotry and prejudice through airing this type of program.

Obviously this clown has yet to realize that Jesse Jackson's tactics caused his fall from "grace".

I sent this below and look at what they sent me back.

You need a new President of the Association. Send this guy packing -- to a country that has no Bill of Rights

Nothing but nice music in Saudi -- or Iran.. They control the radio's station format there..

Thank you for your input. Mark's letter represents the position of our organization. We are not appreciative of your effort to constrain his-- or our organization's-- free speech rights, and we believe that Oregonians should know the content of the radio stations they listen to so that they can make informed choices about which stations they choose to patronize.

End
