so whats the deal did they threaten to remove graduates who turned their backs? I have to say that its disturbing to me if they did.

It might disturb you even more if you were a parent in the audience and your view of the commencement ceremony was being blocked by an @$$hole.

I don't particularly see this as "disruption" tho. Disruption would be blocking a bridge or street or shouting down the speaker or something like that. There are plenty of instances where genuine disruptors should be shown the door and/or arrested. I don't agree this is one of them. And as to the allegation that this couldn't have happened because it would be a "lamestream journalist's wet dream" to be able to cover this. Hardly. At one point sure. But the mainstream media is not interested in rocking the boat. Are they biased? Sure. But let's seriously look at the stories they cover. Nothing too earth-shaking (unless it's something that absolutely can't be ignored).

I heard that..

I'm willing to bet were hearing a mere inkling of the real story.

...but to be expelled from the ceremony is just the price you pay for disrupting.

Trust me, it's the expected price most of the time. A bunch of us were thrown out (yes, physically) from a commie meeting last winter--but we knew going in that we'd be out on the street as soon as we opened our mouths. We just wanted to heckle. And we did.

Anyway, some times in life you have to choose between two things you want very much. The students and their fellow travelers in the audience could choose between staying for the commencement and behaving themselves, or making their "statement" and being ejected. I have no sympathy for people who whine about fascism merely because they can't "have it all", all of the time.

I agree; the DUmmies are cowards. That's why the idiot took his 3yr.old baby. My son is graduating from Univ. of Cincy this summer and if some heckler is sitting in front of me, no matter who the speaker is (God, please don't let it be Hill or Bill), there will be a good chance at least two of us will get kicked out. He is my only child to graduate from college and I don't want anything or anyone to ruin his special day. Cripes, from what I wrote, I might be the one to wreak havoc. Well, I hope you know what I mean and not what I say.

This was an organized effort, that was to include not just graduates but GUESTS in the audience. Go here. I would definitely call this a disruption worthy of ejection. You can't "peacefully turn your back on the President" unless you are STANDING UP BLOCKING THE VIEW OF THE PERSON BEHIND YOU. And those people's rights to view the commencement outweigh the rights of those who want to force people to look at them. Sorry, that's just the way it is.

Peace signs on mortar boards are okay, if lame. And, if they had tried to organize something along the lines of "protest the war by pulling your knees up to your chin and swiveling around in your seat till your back is to the President but yet you're not in anyone else's way", I suppose I wouldn't have a thing to complain about.

Annie, did you here anything about protesters being ejected from the ceremony, and did your friend mention whether they were students or audience members?

there are at least two AP reports - June 14, 2002 at 9:55:12 PDT (the last paragraph):

Bush was invited to speak at the Ohio State commencement by representatives of the graduating class. But immediately before class members filed into the giant football stadium, an announcer instructed the crowd that all the university's speakers deserve to be treated with respect and that anyone demonstrating or heckling could be subject to expulsion and arrest.

from a more recent(1 hour 20 minutes more recent)AP report - June 14, 2002 at 11:15:17 PDT

....To Ohio State graduates who obeyed an announcer's warning against heckling and greeted Bush with hearty cheers, ...

....there is no longer the reference to arrest or expulsion.

If these leftist protesters had stood up when our 2nd rights were being deleted by clinton then I could maybe GAF. As it stands now they can move to cuba if they don't like it here.

.....it is so funny

I beg to differ. My niece graduated from OSU last year - and believes every single piece of drivel this communist has spouted. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Ohio State (I grew up not far from there) is a liberal nest. Be afraid, my friends.

The first AP article that made the claim "arrest and expulsion" was written ~8:00 am Pacific time which equals 11:00 am Eastern time.

AngryWhitey posted her article at 3:00PM eastern time. I contend that she never heard the statement "arrest and expulsion" as she claims she did and that she read it in an article (found through DRUDGE at his AP links)and included it in her story. She makes an extra effort to state that she heard it herself.....I think there ought to be others who were there - interviewed before I give any benefit of the doubt to her.

Newsmax.com President Clinton has himself sicced the Secret Service on critics he thought went too far. Pat Mendoza, who was at the "Taste of Chicago" food fair in July 1996, was actually arrested along with her husband Glenn for merely speaking her mind . . . "You suck and those boys died," Mrs. Mendoza erupted, referring to the still unsolved Khobar Towers bombing a month earlier, which had taken the lives of 19 Marines stationed in Saudi Arabia . . . Seconds before the Secret Service swooped down, a videotape shot by Chicago's WMAQ-TV shows Clinton pointing out the Mendozas to White House enforcer Bruce Lindsey. That video has never been broadcast nationally. After their arrest, the Mendozas spent 14 hours in a Cook County lock-up. Though the Secret Service eventually dropped all charges, the couple, who ran a small electronics business, was soon audited by the Clinton IRS.

I remember when this happened. The Mendozas weren't the only ones upset. This was an unplanned stop by clinton and all Taste of Chicago goers had to wait until clinton left before they could leave. Which made a lot of people late getting back to work. But when did bill or hillary ever care about inconveniencing the little people?

They showed TWO of the back turners on our local station. Surprise, surprise, one was a Muslim female(headress under her cap). Wonder what she is protesting? Hmmm? Our local news also made note of the fellow students disapproval of the backturners whom they said just looked ridiculous and accomplished nothing.
