Just like with Social Security reform, given time Bush is revealed to have a pragmatic strategy to ACTUALLY get some conservative reforms through a hostile political Senate and achieve what was thought to be politically impossible. Some conservatives know how to realistically assess their political constraints and find a way to get results, and some just carp at how utopia was not instilled yesterday.
When the final count is tallied in 2009, Bush will be remembered as a groundbreaking advancer of conservatism.
After President Garfield got capped by a disgruntled job-seeker, it seemed like a good idea.
There needs to be a balance between not allowing people to get fired to make room for cronies (White House Travel Office), but that allows for swiftly canning those who can't do the job.
