Goodness gracious. You're on quite a rant tonight.

Frankly, I'm surprised you have the time to sit here and post with us lowly Freepers. I'd have thought you would have been on TV tonight, giving your views.

Why can't our elected leaders bring themselves to admit, publicly, that the Muslim world has no tradition or understanding of representative government or rights or balance of powers or freedom of religion or anything else connected to advanced societies?

When a state is accepted in the Union, it must be ratified by congress, I believe. State building simply is not the work of the executive, it is a legislative job. Hence Bush does sound autocratic when he says this or that needs to be done, and it does invite autocratic set up of states. It's just that this government is not used anymore in the ways in which it was supposed to be used. Foreign policy never mandated us to set up states, and if it did, it would mean asking congress to help do that. Let the President make war, let Congress legislate.

You're the one insulting Levin because he talks honestly about Bush's position on Israel and you tell other people how to express themselves? That's a typical tactic to avoid dealing with the facts.

The Israelis have been held back by us. We introduced 2 UN resolutions demanding that Israel pull back from its military response 5-6 weeks ago; Powell made numerous statements calling on Israel to restrain its response, and Bush did the same.

Yeah, the next time they say he is like a Democrat, I'm going to barf. Between Lieberman asking to set up Palestinian refugee camps in the US and this anarchic Governor from NM asking to remove the Mexican border, we got our hands full if we do not give credit to Bush where credit is due.

Is this Beat Up On Miss Marple Day?

Miss Marple is generally one of the politest & most logical posters on the board. I've never seen her insult anyone without extreme provocation - and even then, she insults them politely. Some of you could take a lesson on civil discourse from her.

No. I insulted him because he insulted other people on this thread. Until then, I was merely disagreeing. Go back and read the thread.

I don't get where you people think Bush caved and gave in to the terrorists? What did you want him to do - declare war?

This is a smart plan. He is putting a wedge in play among the Palestinians, planting the seed of a state if certain conditions are met, telling them they have to come up with new leadership, telling them they have to put in place a democracy with non-corrupt individuals. And most of all letting them know they have to stop the terrorism or support of terrorism or they get nothing.

IMO this will separate those Palestinians that are willing to work toward a better life and those that do not want peace. Maybe then something can be done with those that want a better life and the terrorists will be a fringe group instead of in control.

When they have taken the Palestinian people away from the terrorists, the terrorists will become less and less important.

Now - no need to tell me I am stupid but I thought I might have the right to question things.

No one can predict the future and what other people will or won't do but today, President Bush made the U.S. position regarding the Palestinian leadership clear - it has to go. I won't bother to retype the president's speech, you can read it again for yourself as you seem to have missed a lot.

Sir,
Please read my reply in #535 of this thread. I am reasonably confident I've clearly presented my own opinion with regard to the President's policy announcement today. And aside from your insult to me, I'm reasonably confident in my understanding of what President Bush announced today.

[Snippity doo dah !}
My analysis is that this was a great speech that clearly laid out a 'path for peace'. I also fear that it will be ignored by most Palestinians. I seriously doubt the leadership of the Palestinians will change or that they will be able to stop the hard-core terrorists from continued suicide bombing of Israeli citizens. So be it. Israel will continue to defend itself. The door to real peace is open.

By opening the door to negotiate with barbarians who use terrorism as a barganing chip, that in of itself lends credance to the use of terrorism as a negotiation tool in the first place, imo.

You seem to desire to make President Bush a liar before the fact, based on former domestic policy switches.

I have no such desire, Sir. Again, aside from your insult to me Sir, my desire is for the survival of Western Civilization and the prosperity of America.

Of cousre I expect you to sneeringly disagree but at least stop those silly demands to 'ANSWER #375' as if you've discovered the President kissing Arafat and have pictures to prove it.

There is no sneer from me, Sir.
Again, I see no need for you to insult me.
I made several REQUESTS to several different people to reply to my question in #375 of this thread.

I must say the lame attempts to find something, anything, wrong with this speech or the Presidents position is sad on a conservative website but then, some folks seem to have a need for a Goldman every day of their lives. This is the wrong day to be bashing this good and reasonable President with snide comments but that never stopped the bashers in the past. After all, his name is Bush. That's about all it takes.

Sir,
Unless I am mistaken, one of the purposes of this forum is to civilly discuss and debate politics and policy. Today a major policy announcement was made by President Bush. I (and I suspect [perhaps wrongly] others) have questions and opinions about that stated policy announcement. Some of those opinions (my own) appear to be at variance with others. My question was asked to several people to assist me in understanding their opinion. If that is "bashing" as you call it, so be it. However, rather than repetitively insulting me, you might want to reconsider your next reply to opinions at variance with your own and reply to the question itself.
Respectfully,

Pyx
Mumbling to the wind: All y'all screamed for civility. And your response to it is ?

My.

You are a nasty one, are you not?!

A small mind creep ...

There's some intellectual nuggets I'll want to save.

Keep advancing that cause ... in the special way you do, bucko ... and we'll all end up in the same illiterate muck you wallow in daily.

ick

"the millions living under tyrants throughout that region and those that want change"

Seperate the "millions living under tyrants" from "those that want change", or better yet those who even with the verbal support of history's mightest nation would be willing to work for and risk their wealth, families and being for change. And further consider that at least since 1929's Hebron Massacre, the anti-Jewish Muslim clerics and potentates have been systemically assasinating those Palestinians who would *like* to live as neighbors in peace with Jews.

After 72 years now, the seed mix is extremely light on Palestinians who do NOT want every Jew killed in the most violent and painful way possible.

It is -- even spiritually, I suspect -- negligible. There weren't ten good men in Sodom to save it either.

But if there are more let them act to be heard or if less let them act to save themselves.

The issue never came up back then

Why did President Reagan publicly lobby for the Brady bill after leaving office? Why did Governor Reagan sign one of the first waiting period laws in the nation?

Here's the fine, unprovoked comment made by your friend "Dane." Your personal attacks occurred before Dane's. So it's intellectually dishonest when you say that my response to Dane is what set you off.

Another point what is it about those radio headphones that make people like you, Rush, and Hannity loud mouthed, pompous, know it all, malcontents?

LOLOL it's clear now that Sean was reading what you were writing to him when he commented on the President's speech. Exactly as I suspected!!

Please do stick to the constitution of the United States and not profess to be an advisor to Israel....they have enough enemies.

Since this directly involves their survival I fail to see how you can decide FOR them. It's the height of arrogance for you and Sean to spout off this nonsense.
