I re-read your posts
seems to me you are talking about foreign invaders
of course everyone would fight off a foreign invasion
doesn't that go without saying

Foriegn invasions are part of it, but there are other ways in which our nation can be attacked. It's culture can (and has been) be subverted from within, for example. There are many ways of attacking the nation without attacking the constitution.

hi traditionalist,
the Constitution merely rules the nation
I am not saying it is the nation

when henry hyde addressed the senate during impeachment
he said ''our flag is dragging in the mud
won't you help us pick it up''
every Dem Senator and 5 pubbies refused to heed his appeal

I do not think they carried out their oath of office
(which was to constitution)

however I rose to answer the appeal
in fact I was there before he asked
so did most freepers then

ultimately truth is in our heart
and we follow it
our nation is made up of its citizens

as rousseau said ''the people can be misled but not corrupted''
I have great faith in the citizens of the USA
Love, Palo

I don't think we disagree. You say:

the Constitution merely rules the nation
I am not saying it is the nation

And I fully agree. Since the constitution is not the nation, but merely what rules it, does it not make more sense to take a pledge to the nation?
