Pledge Banner Michael Newdow's Daughter a Christian
Chuck Smith, Calvary Chapel
Posted on 07/01/2002 12:34:51 PM PDT by SkunkPunk
Last night I attended Calvary Chapel in Fountain Valley, home of Pastor Chuck Smith, founder of the original Calvary Chapel. He told us that Michael Newdow's daughter is a born again Christian and attends a Calvary Christian school. Mr. Newdow was the atheist who brought the Pledge of Allegiance ban lawsuit to court claiming his daughter's rights were violated because of a reference to God in the pledge. Chuck Smith was told of this through a sister Calvary Chapel and got a hold of his contacts in the media. The daughter will now appear on the Today show later this week to denounce her fathers lawsuit. Calvary will release this information to the press later today.

**Real belief in anything comes at a much later age. **
Maybe for you.
"I think, therefore I am." That's belief and it comes mighty early, imho.

Hey fellow Chapellite! We go here in Havasu. Heard Pastor Chuck @ a mens conference in Chino. He has definitely been blessed.
I received an email this morning through the Calvary chain that said the same thing.

You have Freepmail. I know this gal's actions don't represent all Calvary Chapel folks. I really would hate to have a publically Athiest husband (the embarassment factor is high). I just really hate public messy divorces with kids involved. :-(

When is the interview on NBC?

..Michael Newdow's daughter is a born again Christian and attends a Calvary Christian school. Main stream articles have the daughter attending a public school in Elk Grove, CA.

However, there are 'some' children [such as mine], who have choosen to dedicate their lives to Christ once they read, understand, and apply His teachings to their lives.
Most people who consciously decide to become a Christian, who have a good, age-appropriate idea of what it means, do so as a child or young teen. Anyone who has really read the Bible would know that Jesus has said that unless one accepts the kingdom of G-d "like a little child", there is no way at all he'll ever enter into it. It's child-like belief and acceptance that defines Christian faith, not an adult understanding of theology. If you don't start with the former, the latter isn't going to do you any good. Too bad there are some, such as to whom you were responding, that still don't get it.

Jesus himself (according to the Bible) repeatedly exhorted believers to emulate the faith of little children.
You seem to be working under the unsupported assumption that not understanding the broader implications of faith invalidates that faith.
Not according to the teachings of Christianity.
Catholics administer "First Communion" at age 6. While faith may or may not wain with age, it is immaterial to the validity of that faith. (haven't you ever gone back and erred a previously correct answer on a test?)
One who looks "at" a beam of light coming though a hole in the wall of a toolshed can not claim a "more valid" perception of light-beams than one looking "along" that same beam of light who sees the garden outside.
I'd like to hear you support your (as I see it) contention that the little girls faith is invalid because it is naive.

Thank you for the freepmail, Caligirl.
What actions are you disagreeing with? That the mother wants to share her side? What's wrong with that?

That would be correct. She attends Calvary Chapel Church, with her mother.

If either parent is approving of this 4th grader going on national television to denounce her father, that parent is sick and unconcerned with the child's best interests. Since a national TV network would obviously not be interviewing a child of this age without parental approval, and since the agenda behind the interview is consistent with the mother's religious beliefs, I can only conclude that this poor child is being used as a pawn by BOTH her parents -- the father who made her the center of a divisive lawsuit when she's obviously not old enough to have a genuine desire of her own to pursue it, and the mother who hauls her onto national TV to denounce her father. You're right. For some reason, I thought this daughter was older than that; at least that was the impression I got from the original post that started this thread. That's why I said what I said; you're right though, it's sick to use a 4th grader as some kind of pawn in this battle.

Yes, indeed, and it's wonderful. I'll post the website as soon as I can find it. A fellow Bay Area conservative introduced me ...
East Bay bumps!

IF they use the child as a pawn in the divorce and these are the opening salvos, that is sick and wrong. It can leave some pretty nasty emotional scars on the child. The dad is a moron but Mom should not stoop to his level (if she is doing so).
