A new form of AIDS has been discovered in Los Angeles, one which is untreatable.

Reasearchers have warned of the appearance of new strains of HIV, which due to patients abusing treatment programmes, have developed into super viruses which do not react to tradtional retroviral treatment.

It is claimed by the National Institutes of Health and the University of California that these super viruses are spreading fast in San Franciso among both the heterosexual and homosexual communities.

The reasearchers blame the attitude of average Americans for the current situation, stating that people have stopped taking the disease seriously and have ceased to practice safe sex.

Also therapies with drugs are not being respected, with patients in many cases beginning treatment and suspending during its course, making the virus multi-resistant to future therapies.

The researchers also claim that tens of thousands of people living in San Francisco have the new virus and that it is the new, multi-resistant strain of the virus which is passed on.

Given that California was one of the first focal points in the worldwide AIDS epidimic, it would be logical to assume that the same phenomenon will appear elsewhere in the coming years.

Given that the HIV virus is the one of the fastest to mutate, this seems like more of a certainty than a possibility.

Back in Leviticus, for people that gripe about all God's laws, are laws regarding cleanliness, and health. Of course the people at the time didn't understand that these laws had to do with disease prevention, it took a while for science to catch up and realize that these laws cut down on the spread of infectious diseases.

If a person doesn't want to have health, and they want to engage in things that destroy the immune system, a person can't say they were not warned. Did God cause it? No. It was not God that destroyed perfection and brought death into the world, it was man.

I certainly agree that quarantine would have been helpful in the very early stages.

What really bothers me is that back when syphillis was infecting 20% of all Americans, there was a 3 day waiting period (at least in my state) before a marriage license could be issued, so that both partners could be tested for what was, before penicillin, the equivalent to HIV (*yes, I know that some people were apparently immune to syph, some recovered from initial infection and never had a further problem, and some died from it*)--and now bisexual or otherwise HIV infected people can marry with no such test.

The testing was done for the sake of the children of the union, iirc, and syphillis did indeed infect 20% of all Americans, men, women and children.

And BY LAW all Hansen's Disease (leprosy) victims were quarantined until well into the second half of the last century, until an effective cure was developed, iirc. And that is much less infective than HIV.

Many of the comments on this thread are very upsetting. Let these "judges" go to a home for aids baby and volunteer. I tried several years ago and couldn't do it.

I have lost several wonderful friends to aids and hepc. Each of them made my life richer by knowing them. They may have made mistakes; in their life style, drug use or just picking the wrong person to marry. Many were very productive and respected members of their communities.

That some people still believe this is a gay disease is scary.
