Except this is more a case of creating the political equivalent of a fatal funnel.

Bush is going to keep drawing Daschle onto terrain of Bush's choosing, and then he will nail Daschle so hard, he won't know which end is up.

To me, the "real" news here is the existence of the Clinton-Lewinsky cell phone calls. I thought they had long since been erased. Echelon is clearly alive and well. The "defense agencies" cited in the report is a code word for GCHQ (Britain's equivalent of NSA), or another foreign intelligence agency. There were also credible reports that Israeli intelligence taped the calls. Their emergence at this point may represent something of an "insurance policy" for the Israelis against a future Democratic President, or Congressional majority. Turn against Israel, the logic goes, and the Bill-Monica calls become public. NSA might be using the same tactic, to avoid too much damage in the 9-11 post-mortem.
