Daschle Calls for Release of Bush 'Scandal' File; Blocked Clinton Probe

In a marked shift from his efforts three years ago to bottle up Clinton impeachment evidence, top Senate Democrat Tom Daschle called on Sunday for President Bush to release twelve-year-old records of his dealings with the Texas oil firm Harken Energy, files that several anti-Bush media outlets have suggested will reveal an insider trading scandal.

"I think the president would do well to ask the SEC to release the file - release it all," Daschle told CBS's "Face the Nation." "Let everybody see just what is there."

"There have been some real questions, I think, about what happened," the leading Democrat continued. "We've had different explanations as to what actually occurred. I think the best way to resolve all those issues is just allow the SEC release the file."

"Questions still linger over a 1990 sale by Mr. Bush of $848,560 worth of stock on a company whose board he sat," the New York Times editorialized on Sunday, echoing the paper's reports by columnist Paul Krugman, who began recycling the 2000 campaign story as if it were news last week.

Daschle's call for the release of all files related to the Harken imbroglio stands in stark contrast to his efforts to short-circuit the 1999 Senate impeachment investigation, just as reports surfaced that possible smoking gun tapes had been uncovered of phone sex conversations between then-President Clinton and White House fellatrix Monica Lewinsky.

"There are different agencies in the government that make it their business to tape certain things for certain reasons, and it was one of those agencies (that taped Clinton and Lewinsky)," Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Az, told the Arizona Republic just two days before the Senate voted on the Clinton case.

"(There) are people who claim to have information about those tapes, who by virtue of who they are have some credibility with respect to the information they have come forward about," Kyl added.

Sen. Robert C. Smith, R-NH, reportedly told his colleagues that "he had it 'on good authority' that such a (taping) system did exist and he was 'not happy' about having the vote in the impeachment trial without knowing if further evidence might be available," according to the Washington Times.

It was believed that the Clinton-Lewisnky phone sex tapes included a Dec. 17, 1997 conversation where the president asked the White House intern to lie to investigators about their relationship, much has he did with Gennifer Flowers during a taped telephone conversation in 1991.

Others on Capitol Hill were also looking into the possibility that cellular calls made in the White House had been intercepted and recorded on unsecured lines by U.S. defense agencies, Newsday reported at the time.

Though Senate Republican leader Trent Lott wanted the Senate to investigate the sex tape tips before voting on Clinton's guilt or innocense, then-Senate Minority Leader Daschle vetoed the idea as part of a power sharing arrangement the two had hammered out earlier.

"He didn't have to give me veto power," Daschle said after he succeeded in blocking further investigation, "and for that I greatly respect and appreciate him."

Daschle and his colleagues also continue to block the release of other still secret impeachment evidence against Clinton, held in the Ford Building during his Senate trial.

The material, which Sexgate private investigators described for NewsMax.com in 1999, covers several rape allegations and other sexual assaults. It is so graphic and traumatizing that it reportedly "nauseated" one House member who viewed it and reduced another to tears.

Sen. Daschle is believed to have privately urged his Senate colleagues not to view the Ford Building evidence before casting their impeachment votes.

Unless Congress intervenes, the Clinton impeachment evidence will remain sealed until 2049.

Hmmm...let's see...this must be about the 12th attempt by Daschle to find something to hang Bush with, and this attempt, like the other 12 or more, will end up blowing up in Daschle's face.

I predict it will take no more than 12-24 hours for Republicans or someone unbiased in the press to dig up equal or worse allegations about Daschle and/or other fellow Democrats.

Try again, Puff. One of these times, you might actually hit on something real, but by then everyone will have grown weary of the numerous phony attempts.

If a politician says something on Face the Nation does it really go out to the world, or is it like a tree falling in the woods with no one around.

BTW Did you expect anything less out of Mr. Boeing lobbyist?

I heard today -- I think on Fox News -- that Bush sold his stock at a loss when the company was publicly losing money, and that he could have doubled his money if he held it a year longer.

Yep, sure sounds like insider trading to me. < /sacasm >

I think that it's pretty funny to watch the Democrats repeat the same strategy of attacking Bush head-on, again and again and again...

As if they would get a different result.

God forbid that they change strategies. If they do, then that's the time to re-evaluate their chances against us.

What the RATS are doing is called projection. They are all low-life scum-sucking crooks and believe others to be just like them. They don't quite know how to handle a situation in which they are dealing with someone who is decent.

You are absolutely right, Tom "boy" Daschelle, lets check GW all the way back to conception. Was he a planned baby, or did the rubber break?, Did he thrash around and kick a lot, causing his mother to suffer unneccessary morning sickness? Was he a breech birth? Did he get out without assistance or did the doctor use forcips? Did he smile, rather than cry when the Doctor smacked his butt? This could indicate deep emotional problems that call for a Congressional investigation......maybe even the appointment of an indidendent prosecutor.

Did he walk at six months, nine months, twelve months? The liberal democrats have a right to know. Was he breast fed, bottle fed, or just put out in the yard to dine upon whatever crawled or slithered into the yard?

Was he abused or was he pampered by his parents?

There is just so much we still don't know about President GW Bush, that he owes it to us to dictate the story of his life in detail, before the DemocRATS controlled United States Senate-thay need some dirt fast, and they aren't having much luck finding it on their own.

Liberals out of power are truly a riot. Let's keep them out, we need the laughs.

In the half-hour CBS News Show before Face the Nation, CBS ran a long piece about the current spate of accounting-related scandals. Then they showed a great clip of President Bush saying that he was going to hold everyone who cheats and breaks the law fully accountable.

Then, just out of the blue, CBS said that he had to say something like this because Bush himself was involved in his own "insider trading" scandal 10-12 years ago. Just out of the blue, reported as if it's an accepted fact, CBS mentions this, with no more follow-up.

Oh, of course the followup was Daschle saying that Bush should ask the SEC to release these Harkin Energy records to clear the air. I guess to clear the air that CBS is fouling with their desperate attacks--attacks that were timed on cue to provide some context and some credibility to Dashole's attack of the week.

I've sold oil tools to Harkin Energy in South Texas. No Texas oil driller had and has a higher reputation than Harkin. I'm not saying that those good ol' boys don't do a few good ol' buddy favors for each other, but this is such an idiotic item to dredge up. George W. has nothing to fear if the media does any kind of a full report about the oil drilling industry in Texas and Bush's role in it.

Don't know about at a loss as he was given 212,000 shares when he joined with Harken in 1986 valued at $500,000. He later acquired another 133,000 or so though options/etc. He then sold the 212,000 for $4.00 share... But within 14 months the stock had rebounded and doubled on the close. It was volitable and actually was much higher at various points during the trading days prior to the close of $8.13. Some dates and closes....

Harken Energy Corporation

For an insider trading he left a 100% gain above his price on the table.... He sold at $4 and it went to a close of $8.13 in 14 months. It had a daily high of over $4 in 7 Months and over $16 in 14 months. Yep some insider that Dubya.

Dasshole won't release his tax records since it would show the inordinate amount of lobbying that his wife performs. "Say Tiny Tom. What are YOU hiding? Does Valuejet ring a bell? How about those airport scanners your wife chose? Any good? You worthless piece of buffalo dung!"

That's not all - this is the 3rd time the dems have tried to use this same info. They used it against Bush 41, against W when he ran for governor and again when he ran for president. This is OLD, OLD, OLD news.

These scum are desperate - George W. IS straight-up. The Dems can't believe what they are dealing with and can see (horrors) four more years of George W. coming at them that's not stoppable! Hah. Too bad, little Tommie!
