Al Gore took Iowa in 2000, but the Iowa Poll shows the president would win in a rematch.

President George W. Bush would rout Al Gore by more than 2 to 1 in Iowa, a state he lost in 2000, if a rematch of the historic election were held today, according to the latest Iowa Poll.

Problem is, you can't poll dead people.

But they can vote...

Last thing Algore 2004 could afford is him running as himself.

He'd lose even bigger in Red Nation if he ran as the extreme commie he is on social issues than when at least in 2000 his handlers got him to shut up down here about stuff like Earth In The Balance. Can you imagine his 2004 campaign if he tried to sell himself as the senator who wrote that book only 12 years earlier?

Algore in his own words, 1992-2000 - including Earth In The Balance!

"Clearly one reason it's as one-sided as it appears is Gore has been pretty much under the radar," Aldrich said.

There'll always be a poly-sci academic to issue an apologia for the liberal candidate as sure as the sun will rise each day.

"I had no faith in him (Bush) when he was running, but he has surrounded himself with men and women of character and vision," said Rhonda Lane of Eldridge, a 51-year-old registered Democrat who voted for Gore in 2000.

Hey Rhonda...you got it half right....it's because Bush is a HIMSELF A MAN OF CHARACTER AND VISION

This is such good news.

Rhonda is at least able to step outside her standard thinking and actually acknowledge the tremendous depth and knowledge and character of the people advising, surrounding and helping our President lead this nation. Perhaps she will come to realize that it takes of man of character, vision and 'gravitas' to choose such a team. Your point was well taken.

Clinton chose a team composed only of those he could drive, manipulate, thrill and cajol into doing things I suspect they deeply regret. (At least I HOPE they do...chances are, they are much like their mentor else they would not have been there, including AL GORE.)

By the way, has Al Gore decided who he wants to be when he grows up, yet? I mean we know he wants to be president, but has he figured out who he IS? (Or like ol billy, does the very word 'is' produce confusion?)

Gore has remained largely out of the political spotlight since the 2000 race, working in the private sector and writing a book.

Let me guess the title of the book.....

"How I invented the English language, the micro chip and the paper clip - in one afternoon!"

"Gas is bad - Green is good!"

"The untold secrets of the 'Lock box'!"

"The inside story of being a Slum Lord!"

"Funny money is the Best!"

"Authority - schmority!"

What ever the title, and non-content, it will get rave reviews I'm sure. DU.com is having an orgasm right about now.

I understand that Bush would win New York and California if the election were held today, too.

Too bad those contrived scandals didn't work out for ya...

"If Iowa is any indication of the difference the past year and a half has made in Bush's political popularity, California might be an even more significant measure. Bush lost the nation's most populous state and its 54 electoral votes by 12 percentage points in 2000, but he would win there today by seven percentage points, according to a poll conducted there in May."

So, in the People's Republik of California, the President would only win by 7%?! There's still that many Gorons in Cali? Sheesh, they really are that f_cked up, aren't they? Goes to show that old Davis still has a good shot at winning there - I'm amazed that Condit didn't win there this time as well. Pretty soon the rest of us are going to need to fence that place off from the rest of this reality, or just let the Mexicans have it - it may turn out to be the best weapon we'd have against all the illegal immigration. (Note to Pres. Fox: Be careful what you wish for.)

WHAT ABOUT THE SENATE???

The last poll I saw showed Harkin at 49%, Ganske at 43% which isn't bad considering Ganske likely has a great deal of advertising ahead of him. If you read the FR Iowa boards you will see there is some animosity towards Ganske by many of the "far right" Repubs, some of whom are threatening to write in Bill Salier (who lost the GOP primary) or not vote at all. Although I do not agree with Ganske on several issues, I would think just about anybody is preferable to Tom Harkin.
