Sure, good old John McCainiac was one of the Keating Five.

The Select Committee on Ethics included this about good old John in its final report:

"Mr. Keating, his associates, and his friends contributed $56,000 for Senator McCain's two House races in 1982 and 1984, and $54,000 for his 1986 Senate race. Mr. Keating also provided his corporate plane and/or arranged for payment for the use of commercial or private aircraft on several occasions for travel by Senator McCain and his family, for which Senator McCain ultimately provided reimbursement when called upon to do so. Mr. Keating also allowed Senator McCain and his family to vacation with Mr. Keating and his family, at a home provided by Mr. Keating in the Bahamas, in each of the calendar years 1983 through 1986.

"…[F]rom 1984 to 1987, Senator McCain took actions on Mr. Keating's behalf or at his request. The Committee finds that Senator McCain had a basis for each of these actions independent of the contributions and benefits he received from Mr. Keating, his associates and friends.

"Based on the evidence available to it, the Committee has given consideration to Senator McCain's actions on behalf of Lincoln. The Committee concludes that, given the personal benefits and campaign contributions he had received from Mr. Keating, Senator McCain exercised poor judgment in intervening with the regulators without first inquiring as to the Bank Board's position in the case in a more routine manner. The Committee concludes that Senator McCain's actions were not improper nor attended with gross negligence and did not reach the level of requiring institutional action against him. The Committee finds that Senator McCain took no further action after the April 9, 1987 meeting when he learned of a criminal referral.

IMHO, McCain was let off this gently because of his reputation as a captured Naval aviator, a captive of the North Viet Namese. He was widely viewed as a war hero.

And this is the guy who's trying to be judge, jury, and executioner for Campaign Finance Reform.

Who made him do it?

According to the "source" it is the result of American negotiations. There seems to be some kind of deal. But I saw only one report, and there are a lot of bogus reports.

"Does that mean that Bush believes Clinton did a good job? "

No means that Clinton had nothing to do with the fiasco. The question was not if Clinton did a good job.

Bush began his term by refusing to attack the previous officeholder and officeholder's party. That goes for his Cabinet as well. Time to move on, there's work to do.

Would tend to think it also affects McCain the way he is going after Pitt.

Possible .. but McCain still has a bug up his butt about the FEC and and his stupid CFR Bill .. plus he is still in bed with the Rats

As for the Rats .. if these CEO's go to court then there is a good chance a whole bunch of info will come out and the Dems won't be able to control it

If it stays in Congress then they have a chance of controlling it with these stupid committee hearings they are having

Take a look at Enron .. how many months has it been and STILL nothing has happened

And ten bucks says .. we'll see even more cooked books .. this ain't over by a long shot

Remember when Tarzin started his investigation in the House which has gotten very little press compared to the Senate that all bets were off.

If he is going back into clinton, then Global Crossing is going to come out and with that mcauliffe, mccain, and the RATS are up to their eyebrows. Now with the SEC head, Pitt, going after probably some of the same thing, they are all crying fowl. Something is up.

This is going to get good and I would expect not only more cooked books but some CEO is going to start spilling the beans.

Beginning to enjoy this!

Carenot, you don't sound like a happy camper. Where is your outrage about how the press is acting? Where is your outrage re the NAACP comments today ? Where is your outrage there are no conservative judges being considered, no money for the military, no budget?? Please, quit, pouting about the president--look at the overall picture and you decide what you want to be--are you in agreement with how the senate is being run? Are you happy with the conservative judges languishing in the background while Tommy D. does nothing? Either you are with the conservative party or you are not. But none of this pouting, ok. And if you still are unhappy then move on--isn't this a conservative website?

The "War on Terror" is officially a war but is in reality an international police action against international criminals. Bush said so in his speech today.

Quote from the Bush transcript :
"...these are like international criminals, is what they act like. They kind of hide and order things up and hide again..."
To: exodus
How else do you classify combatants that act independently of their own country??
Very pedantic of you, exodus.

*************************

Well, let's see.
What do you call someone who commits crimes in nations not his own without the sanction of his country?

I'd call him an international criminal.

What do you call a group of people who attack citizens of other nations without the sanction of their government?

I'd call them international criminals.

Because they're justifying violence for political reasons, they're international terrorists. Terrorists are a form of criminal. They are not soldiers. They are not members of a national attack force.

Maybe you consider that unimportant detail. Liberals always have, and we can't fall behind the times, can we?

Words used to mean things, habs4ever. As a result of this "war," conservatives need to keep an eraser beside their dictionary.

Liberals have the advantage again.
They're used to this.

Pitt used to be an industry lawyer and many people think that he knows too many of the corporate world

Maybe he knows all their secrets too

"It will be nice when he reveals it to us common folk.

I don't think he knows.

If he don't, why not? "

Let's see--a bomb hits a body--body parts fly all over Afghanistan. If OBL was killed by air attack--I suspect he is a good example of dust to dust----- bits in Iran, bits in Lebanon, bits in Kabul.

Hey exodus, I am a granny, too. If carenot doesn't like my comment, then she can speak up. I should have flagged her on that comment, which was an error on my part.

However, I stand by my comment.
