  • President Obama can not answer questions the media does not ask (another wasted press conference)

The much anticipated "we will ask him about the phony scandals" news conference came and went. Unfortunately, we still don't know what the White House means by a "phony scandal". Hopefully, they will ask him about the "phony scandals" when he goes on Leno or MTV. Another press conference and a total waste of time. And frankly more evidence that The White House Press Corps is stealing money from their editors. The members of the media looked like a bunch of people who couldn't wait to go home early on a Friday afternoon. I was hoping to hear something about...

President Barack Obama rarely makes himself available to the mainstream media. They adore him anyway. At rare press conferences, such as the one scheduled for noon Friday at the White House, they lob softball questions or accept his evasive, meandering answers, rarely pressing him for clarity, much less truth. But there are many questions that the president ought to answer, yet which he is unlikely to face at all. 10. In 2008 you promised not to "do an end-run around Congress" with signing statements. Yet you have used signing statements and you have taken executive actions to circumvent Congress on...

For one brief moment on Sequester Day – March 1, 2013 A.D., a day that will live in insolvency – President Barack Obama let down his guard. In one of his rare real press conferences, he accepted questions, and soon wished he hadn’t. Asked a very softball question – whether there was anything he might have done differently, or might do differently in the future, to break the gridlock and make progress on the government’s budget – Obama snapped back “Well, Julie, give me an example of what I might do!” Simply incredible. All over the nation, people stared at...

You know that old saying that there are no dumb questions? It's not true. I know. As a journalist, I've asked my share of stupid questions. Yet even in the context of my own shortcomings, I do not understand what the White House press corps is thinking during what passes for a news conference in the Obama White House. Consider Monday's news conference. The last presser of President Barack Obama's first term spanned 53 minutes. Seven reporters asked questions -- after Obama called on them as if according to script. In his fashion, Obama answered a couple. There's a law...

Chuck Todd, NBC. QUESTION: Thank you, sir. As you know, Senate Democrats -- Harry Reid sent you a letter begging you, essentially, to take -- consider some sort of executive action on this debt ceiling issue. I know you've said you're not negotiating on it. Your administration has ruled out the various ideas that have been out there, the 14th Amendment, but just this morning, House -- one of the House Democratic leaders, Jim Clyburn, asked you to use the 14th Amendment and even said sometimes that's what it takes. He brought up the Emancipation Proclamation as saying they took...

Wednesday’s press conference marked the first occasion journalists have had to question the President directly – about anything – in eight months, and President Obama tipped his hat on his plans to confront the coming fiscal cliff with chastened House Republicans. In short, he will probably raise tax rates for the wealthy. But thanks to an explosive and, as my colleague Donny Deutsch put it, testosterone-fueled defense of UN Ambassador Susan Rice, a lot of what the President also said about his plans to reduce the deficit went ignored. That’s a shame – they were quite illuminating. Before Obama’s “bring...

In June, the Washington Post celebrated the 40th anniversary of the biggest scoop in journalistic history — Watergate. Looking back on it, the Post has every right to crow. The story was so huge that every political scandal since has been labeled with the word “gate” tagged onto the end of it. However, the Post should also consider the adage, “You’re only as good as your last story,” because there’s a bigger one out there for the taking, if it only had the courage to pursue it. That story is, of course, the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi,...

WASHINGTON -- It has been a very rough patch for Our President, and I do believe it is going to get rougher still. Do not be surprised, as the month goes on and August runs into September, that his campaign budget becomes tighter. President Barack Obama is spending more money than he is raising. It will get worse. A president who mismanages the federal budget the way Obama does cannot be expected to manage his campaign budget much better. Painfully watched Obama's press conference this morning. The most uninspiring one possible from a most uninspiring individual. The conference had no purpose, no direction no call to action. America wants a president to lead, Obama can't lead. He tried to talk about econopmy, Europe, classified leads but no course of action. I vaguely remember when folks criticized President Barack Obama for shirking press conferences. And at the time, in light of his campaign promises to lead the most transparent administration in U.S. history, ignoring the media did seem a little hypocritical. Now, after two presidential pressers in as many weeks, I’m nostalgic for the days when the president rarely spoke in such a public fashion. To be sure, BHO sounds slicker than ever, reciting lines that resound to his own acclaim, lines that circumspectly and self-consciously seek to contribute to his mythical mature, cool, cerebral superiority. Barack Obama’s press conferences should be mandatory viewing for all Political Science and Economics classes. Lacking the appreciation for deception that most leftist politicians mastered long ago, President Obama spends his press conferences enunciating the goals and methods of the Left, honestly and proudly – blissfully unaware that an audience of real Americans, when able to see them clearly for what they are, is certain to be horrified. Analyzing an Obama event is like watching a flower girl at a wedding; our as-yet unindicted president skips down the aisle, tossing flower petals in every direction – his ideas on budgets...

Mention has been made about President Obama’s casting of corporate jet owners as villains in yesterday’s press conference. Clearly, he feels strongly about it, as he called them out specifically half a dozen times. This vilification is especially rich, coming as it does from the man who regularly rides what is likely considered to be the most expensive “corporate jet” in the world. And of course we shouldn’t forget that the “tax breaks” for those dastardly corporate jet owners came right from his own Stimulus plan which failed so spectacularly… But let’s take a look at the “corporate jet” part...

When Mark Halperin asked if the seven-second delay was working prior to offering his observation on President Obama's performance at his press conference of yesterday, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski seemed to assume he was joking, and invited the normally mild-mannered pundit to proceed. I keep thinking/hoping, eventually journalists are going to wake up. I’ve spent 30 years in the business, always cynical about its mission (the business is supposed to attract cynics,) and waiting and wondering if good sense and logic will finally win out over the obvious politics. THE HEALTH REPORT: President Obama is scheduled to give two interviews Wednesday afternoon as the Senate continues to work its way toward a final health care vote scheduled for Thursday. The first interview, at 1:45 p.m. in the Oval Office, will be with two National Public Radio reporters: Julie Rovner, a health policy correspondent, and Robert Siegel, the host of "All Things Considered." They will focus on health care, NPR says. The second interview will be with PBS's Jim Lehrer, at 2:15 p.m. in the Map Room. PBS says the questions will be on "the health reform push and more."

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll today finds his overall approval rating falling below 50% for the first time.
