Former Reagan Administration official Oliver North told Israeli television Saturday night that people he knows fighting in Afghanistan believe Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin-Laden has been dead since December.
Amid conflicting reports about Bin Laden's whereabouts, North was questioned in an interview with Channel One as to whether he believes the terrorist has been defeated.
"My friends on the ground in Afghanistan believe he has been dead since December," North, a retired Marine commander, replied.
North was deputy director of counterintelligence for the National Security Council under Reagan and convicted of fraud in the Iran-Contra "arms-for-hostages" scandal of the late 1980's. He was in Israel this week broadcasting his radio show Radio America from The Jerusalem Post's studios.

You have clearly never been in the marines or you would acknowledge the insult. Instead you are showing ignorance by continuing the discussion. Shouldda just taken my word for it.

I tend to think you are right. Where was the video tape that was supposed to come out on July 4th from Bin Laden?

I didn't know they were playing for different teams, sorry. There's a saying in the Corps "The Army is the enemy."

I have it on good authority that Bin Laden is now a greeter at WalMart

And.......since when did 'troops' become a singular thing?
500 troops = 500 soldiers????
People are rewriting the dictionary and not telling the rest of us.
Soon there will be 500 Airwings...or 500 Battalions.....or 500 National Guards.....or 500 Police forces.
I always thought a troop was a group of some kind.....oh well.
We need a new politicaly correct dictionary so we can converse with those who are so easily offended.

I'm pretty sure that there are covert actions by soldiers like North North wasn't a soldier,he was a Marine. He was also never involved in any covert actions himself, and some of the Marine officers who knew him in VN have said a lot of his background is only loosely based on the truth.

The bit about Marines saying that the Army IS the enemy is a humor thing. I guess if you weren't in the Corps it might sound harsh.
The Marines don't hate the Army, really. Marines do consider themselves to be an elite band of brothers.
History tends to support this belief.

He was also never involved in any covert actions himself,Read your comment again and see if you find it as stupid as I did.
Do you even know what covert means?

The bit about Marines saying that the Army IS the enemy is a humor thing. Whew! I was beginning to wonder. What, with all the hostility over the soldier thing.

Interesting to see what the DNA testing will reveal. Not much. Bush NEEDS him alive so the so-called "war on terrorism" can continue. The instant any proof is offered that he's dead, the Dims will be screaming the "war" is over, and they will want to use all that money on social programs to buy votes. As long as there is no proof he is dead, they have to stay silent.

You have clearly never been in the marines or you would acknowledge the insult. INSULT??????? As a former career soldier myself,I can tell you it is no insult to call ANYBODY a soldier.

If the US government knows OBL is dead, why tell anyone? He serves our purposes as MIA rather DOA since the Euro-freaks would put tremendous pressure on their governments to stop the war on terrorism. It may be easier to find his trainees now than if OBL was dead.

Thank you. I thought being a soldier was a good thing, too.

A meglomaniac like bin Laden likes the spotlight, particularly when he's being challenged
Really? Remember he never admitted to the attacks on the WTC as his work on video. That tape was taken from someone or someplace else not from him. Also compaired to some other terrorist leaders he has been very camera shy during his whole carrer. Untill now even though he has been very active as a terrorist not many people knew much about him other then terrorist junkies.
A set of remains had been found, and there were hints that they might be bin Laden
If it was his they would have told us about it already. Two weeks is more then enough to get a few different confirmations if they thought it was him. I am shure we will get him but to assume anything now would be insane. I would like to see his dead body.
