Schundler is back; not all in GOP are thrilled

Thanks for the flag. If I would have found a place in Jersey, I would be the first in line to help Bret get revenge on the RINOs who sabotaged his campaign.

Unfortunatly, I will be stuck with George "Big Spenda" Pataki, king of the RINOs, as my governor.

Actually, NJ is a wonderful place to live. We always tried to avoid a move here, but finally got transferred and we love it, just can't afford it.

Schundler Bump. The RINOs and Dims hate him because he's a successful, intelligent, attractive, articulate man who has core values and tons of creative ideas. That is, he's not a typical politician. I'm praying that he runs again in 2005. It would say nothing good about our state if the most promising and virtuous politician it has produced in recent memory is unable to win a general election statewide -- perhaps that New Jersey is no longer worthy of republican (small 'r') government.

Heck, the incumbent Republican governor, DiFrancesco, wouldn't even endorse Bret!

Donnie Di not only wouldn't endorse Bret, he made it not-so-secret that he preferred McSleazey. Donnie Di was just holding over his grudge from the primary. He realized that his slimy past was going to prevent him from becoming governor and a dirtball like him positively abhors that a good honest man like Schundler is going to get the honor that he thinks he deserves. He's a small, petty, nasty little man. The only good thing about McSleazey winning the last election is that it rid us of the despicable Acting Governor.

Good article. Bret will win next time, and he should follow his instincts and ignore the existing GOP leadership, both in Trenton and DC. They both sandbagged him.

It was more important to the RINO GOP in NJ to lose the governorship than to have a maverick conservative like Bret win. And the national GOP didn't send anyone to campaign on his behalf. And there were only two Gov. contests nationwide last year. And the stupid GOP lost them both.

So they got what they wanted. And lost the rest of us conservatives in the process. Go, Bret, GO!

One of the reasons that GOP high profile support from DC was lacking was due to 9-11. It would not have been appropriate for Bush, Cheney, et al to go stomping for a candidate when they were in full crisis mode dealing with the attack. Campaigning would have seemed trivial by comparison. I do agree completely with everyone's assessment of the state GOP - especially Donnie 'D'- what he did to Bret was disgusting.

DiFrancesco (“All the Corruption of Torricelli, Half the Charm”) did worse than that. He was very active behind the scenes sabotaging Schundler’s campaign.

“The Party” won last time out in New Jersey. There is only one in New Jersey, and DiFrancesco and McGreevey are both in it.

he couldn't get on message. The most visible part of his campaign after the primary was the drive to get rid of parkway tolls. It didn't resonate, and the parts of his message that would have resonated did not get any attention.

I would have to disagree with the second part of your analogy as to Bret's loss. I felt he was on message and his campaign issues were resonating with the public. RINO backstabbing cost Schundler a good deal of "moderate"(read Franks-type supporters) pubbie votes resulting in such a poor turnout at the polls. This in combination with the liberal political and liberal media machines of the tri-state area took their toll.

The Primettime of the campaign was right after 9-11 there was no O2. He was smothered and couldn't get his message out....It was not a time for the popular prez to be political and support him!!!

The treatment Schundler got parallels the treatment that Barry Goldwater got in 1964. But 16 years later, Ronald Reagan won handily on the same platform, vindicating Goldwater's fight for decency and honorable Government.

Conservatives need to stand fast. What we fight for is the right--both in the sense of the political right and the morally correct. We have the high ground because any other approach starts with lies, usurped power and a politics that caters to the worst human traits, while rejecting truth, honor and respect for duty. Schundler has lost nothing worth having, if the only way he could have won, last time, was by sacrificing his principles. Next time may well be another story.

An even more egregious example of perfidy of the RINO party was demonstrated by former NJ STATE REPUBLICAN CHAIRMAN Garideb "Chuck" Hatayian. Believe it or not, two months ago, he donated $2000 to Torricelli's Senatorial campaign. The former Chairman of the State Repub. Party!!!!!

He justified by saying that he was a lobbyist, and that a client of his (Oxford Health Plans) asked him to do it, so he did it to please his client. I challenge anyone of FreeRepublic to find a better example of Republican/RINO hypocrisy, fecklessness, lack of loyalty and respect for his former office, and utter stupidity.
