The number of convicted sex offenders living out in society is mind boggling.

Just go to the website and check out your own community. There is one, actually there are now two ... in my neighborhood. They even sent out a postcard to nearby residents warning them of the second one.

Why can't they convict these people? I think it's because the main witnesses are children, who are too traumatized to make good witnesses. It's especially horrible because these people are KNOWN repeaters. They NEVER don't repeat.

Defense trial tactics are absolutely brutal to these kids. Few parents desire to have their children attacked and traumatized on the witness stand in the fashion that has become the norm in child sex abuse trials.

Kids older than 12 are typically subjected to particularly savage cross-examinations. The goal is to rattle the kid so badly that he or she appears confused and unsure. That's all a good defense attorney needs to cobble together enough reasonable doubt to get an acquittal.

That is why so many of these cases never make it to trial or are dealt out at reduced sentences.

In this case, Samantha Runnion is dead and cannot be further brutalized. The miscreant has few places remaining to hide.

Do you have a link for us? Or do you know what agency handles that database? I'd love to have a look at my community.

One of the men I work with, his daughter was sexually assaulted last year in their home by a repeat sexual offender. He and his wife were always extremely careful to make sure all the doors were locked, tightly. But their oldest two boys would sneak out at night and play in the backyard, and then sneak back in after they were told to go to bed. They thought they always relocked the basement door. One night they forgot, and the sexual pervert just happened to be in their neighborhood, trying to see if there were any unlocked doors at the houses. He got into their basement right after midnight, went into their nine year old daughter's bedroom and sexually assaulted her. She finally screamed, the pervert ran, but through very fortunate circumstances was found cowering at his grandmother's home a short time later. I can't remember how many charges this guy had against him, but it was more than one. And he was released from prison for "good behavior" after each crime. Not for this one though, he is going away for a very long time.

When is society going to learn, that it is almost never that those perverts don't reoffend and remolest???
