Foster Professorship

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

June 28, 1998 (Features, D2)

A black-tie dinner June 19 in Josephine's River Ballroom at Arkansas' Excelsior Hotel celebrated the establishment of the Vincent Foster Professorship of Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility at the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville. "This is a special night," said Dean Leonard Strickman, explaining that the project to finance the professorship has taken about four years. It will have been five years next month since Foster died. Strickman and his wife, Danielle, hosted the evening with Lisa Foster Moody and Judge Jim Moody and her children Vincent III of Atlanta, Laura, a Fayetteville law student, and Brugh Foster of Lexington, Va., a recent graduate of Washington and Lee University.

After a reception in the lounge, the 120 guests were seated in the room overlooking the Arkansas River at tables centered with bouquets of alstroemeria lilies and gerbera daisies. The menu included wild mushroom soup, Cajun chicken, and New York cheesecake. Howard Brill, who has been designated as the first Vincent Foster Professor, spoke to the group along with Vince III and Strickman. Each guest received a reprint of the commencement address Vince Foster gave May 8, 1993, at the law school.

Toasting the professorship were Toby and Bernie Nussbaum of New York, who is a former White House counsel; and Katherine Brill, Jean and University President Alan Sugg, Mary Lib and Chancellor John White, Karen Hornibrook and Bill Kennedy, Susan and Leon Holmes, Carolyn and Judge David Newbern, Helen and Fred Harrison, Carol and Phillip McMath, Marcia and Jim Darr, Julie and Wally Allen, Diane and Phillip Carroll, Nancy and Dr. Drew Kumpuris, Liz and Steve Quattlebaum, Nan Brown and Chris Barrier, Peggy and Wilson Jones, Denise and Rick Campbell, Roxanne and Leon Catlett, Mary Lou and Bill Martin, Stephanie and Jerry Atchley, Carla and Tim Spainhour, the Rev. Francis Malone, Peyton Roberts and Bill Woodyard IV, Marjem and John Gill, former Sen. David Pryor, Betty and Jim McKenzie, Dorine and Jack Deacon of Jonesboro, Ann and Judge Bob Dawson of Fort Smith, Mary Lynn and Bob Dudley, Amy Fiske and Daniels Bynum, Helen and John Sloan, John Reynolds, Martha and Ron Clark, Mark McLarty, Donna and Lewis Epley of Eureka Springs, Karen and Jim Simpson, Sheila Anthony of Washington, with daughters Alison Bethune and Laurea Cargill, and Martha and Malcolm McNair.

Thank you for posting this. That list of folks at the 1998 dinner is a Who's Who of the Arkansas elite who knew what Klinton was, but chose power over all.

I would pay a lot of money just to have a quiet and honest conversation with Sheila Anthony. She knows the drill on Hillary Regina and Vincenzo Fosterini (the latter being Hill's affectionate name for her 'mentor' from quiet outings at an Italian restaurant). Of course, Sheila will NEVER say a word. NEVER.
