Something Has Got To Give In The Middle East

The Israeli State and people are in an impossible position. The Palestinians show no real signs of wanting to live in peace with them, and militant Islam has made the destruction of Israel the centerpiece of its fanatical policy.

Israel's borders are the product of wars and UN resolutions, but whatever they are or have been they are indefensible. The borders are porous and no amount of Israeli vigilance can prevent all infiltrations by political-religious extremists willing to blow themselves up as they also blow up many civilians.

No country can tolerate this. Every effort at peace or conciliation has led only to more homicide bombing. No Israeli government, however right-wing or left-wing, has seemed able to accomplish anything more than a temporary halt to the terror, and that has been the result of such vigorous Israeli action that world opinion of a liberal-leftist sort has called Israeli methods 'Nazi'.

What can be done?

A few words from the Colin Powells or the British foreign office only convinces me that they have no solution either. Ariel Sharon has no solution. Nor does Benjamin Netanyahu despite all his self-serving rhetoric. The Israeli left has only Neville Chamberlain as their leader.

I have a solution.

Israel cannot be secure within its present boundaries. It must decide what boundaries it can defend against military and terrorist attack alike, these can be more extensive than current borders or less extensive, but they must be defensible. These boundaries having been proclaimed and established, all Arabs within them (except for Israeli Arab citizens) must be expelled into the remaining West Bank, Gaza, or Transjordan.

This will probably sound extreme, 'Nazi', or crazy to our bien pensants (that means, "conventional thinkers"). But it would prevent something even more extreme. Israel posses nuclear weaponry sufficient to destroy the whole region and to unleash world suicide. It will not hesitate to use them in a desperate situation, nor should it hesitate to use them as a final measure in extremis. Read Flavius Josephus on The Jewish War.

My proposal will be criticized and condemned, but it would allow Israel to defend itself without unleashing nuclear devastation. And it probably will finally force the Arabs to face realities: they have lost their wars with Israel; they are backward, mired in religious nonsense and fanaticism, and doomed to disappear one way or another if they persist in their present insanities.

Israel needs a leader capable of proposing and enforcing such a proposal. Americacorrected needs a leader wise enough to see its necessity, even at the risk of displeasing the Saudis, the academics, and the striped-pants people at the State Department. After all, as the Romans said: SALVS POPVLI SVPREMA LEX!

This is called 'Transfer' and is the only obvious solution. It is under constant discussion--but no action--in Israel.

IMHO it should not exclude "Arab Israeli Citizens". They must go too.

Otherwise Israel will cease to exist.

Perfect.

Israel must kick the arabs out of the West Bank.
If the world doesn't like it TOO DAMN BAD! During the 1940's while six million Jews were being slaughtered the world said nothing. Frankly "I don't give a damn" what the world says about Israel if it were to finaly get a backbone and kick the terrorists out of Israel. I would be happy to remind them how they were silent as Jews were being slaughtered.

"Nuke 'em. It's the only way to be sure."

I thought that it meant "A nuke means never having to say you're sorry".

This is all true as far as it goes, but I'm curious to know just where these theoretical "defensable" borders will be.

I still think the State of Israel is going to end up like the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem...and probably before its centennial. I don't think the Israelis are going to have the stomach for the kind of measures that will be necessary to maintain their tiny enclave. Not when they can move to the USA and live in peace, freedom and prosperity.

The remnent of die-hard ultra zionists will hunker down in their settlements and fight the long twilight struggle....

The real question for us Americans is: How long are we going to continue to support this noble, but ultimately futile, enterprise? And at what cost?

Actually, it is being implemented - and has been for 25 years. No matter what, the settlements have been and are expanding and every response to Palestinian terror makes it that much more difficult for them to stay in the West Bank.

If every single Israeli tied an anchor on their butt and leapt into the sea, The Arabs would still be fighting over the same real estate a thousand years from now.
