[history]
July 27, 2002 -- THE political noose is tightening around Sen. Robert Torricelli's neck. But do the members of the Senate Ethics Committee have the stomach to spring the trap door on one of their own?
For months, the New Jersey Democrat has heatedly denied that he illegally took tens of thousands of dollars in cash and personal gifts from businessman David Chang in return for political favors.

Torricelli paid $3,600 in cash for the clock, which was delivered to his home. But investigators who traced bank records are reported to have found that the senator did not make such a substantial withdrawal in the six months prior to the purchase. But Chang, on the other hand, withdrew precisely that amount - just two days earlier!
And while Chang was listed as the buyer of the $1,877 television, the invoice shows it was delivered to the address (with one clear typographical error) of the senator's own home.
Yet the committee's acting chairman, Daniel Inouye (D-Ha.), refuses to let Chang - or anyone else, for that matter - testify.
The Democrats are the mafia disguised as a political outfit.

Don't have the character to do it -- he's raised too much money for the Party.

The time has come for the Democrats to amend all legislation and regulations to state that they have no effect if violated by a Democratic President or Senator. Then they will have put their cards on the table.

The Democrats are the mafia disguised as a political outfitVery true. A criminal syndicate. These are truly "America's Most Wanted", by any honest individual that understands FREEDOM. They are a greater threat to FREEDOM than Osama Bin Laden and his dead terrorists ever could be. Obvious terrorists galvanize the sheeple, give one identifiable targets with links to others. The Toricelli/Democratic criminal syndicate is much more massive, widespread, not as recognizable, has propagandists fronting for it in/on national media everyday and legal experts as another line of defense...all intent on obfuscating FREEDOM. What is FREEDOM?

It appears that the DOJ had the goods against the Torch courtesy of some good FBI work, but decided to simply pass the case over to the political body that has historically defined unethical behavior.
If a petty crook stole the clock, TV, jewelry and other items they would be in jail. But since it's Senator, he gets an office, staff, paycheck, and travel allowance from the taxpayer. This is bullhockey.

I had a great idea on a thread yesterday. An Italian restaurant should devise a special dish called the "Pasta Torricelli" or something like that and offer it from now until Election Day. Everyone who orders it will get an automatic entry in the Election Day raffle -- the prize, of course, will be a $1,600 television.
Any takers out there?

It appears that the DOJ had the goods against the Torch courtesy of some good FBI work . . . If only that were the case . . . The FBI work in this case could best be described as "mind-numbingly routine" -- that's how utterly simple the whole thing was. The worst thing about politicians is not that they are corrupt, but that they are such cheap whores who don't even bother covering their tracks.

But do the members of the Senate Ethics Committee have the stomach to spring the trap door on one of their own? Of course not. What a silly question.
Oxymoron = Senate Ethics Committee.

I love this idea! Add "Chicken Torricelli" and "Toricelli with Meatballs"
for a Rolex and Italian suits, respectively.

The Ethics Committee is an abomination. Sen. Reid (D. NV) has already stpped aside, ostensibly because of personal reasons - friendship with the accused. Sen. Inouye (D. HI) is acting chairman and has already said he would like to go away. These guys have no ethics themselves.
But even if they had this guy on tape with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing about the pay-off, they would not vote to send it to the Senate, nor would the Senate vote to convict, censure, etc. That act(s) would endanger the Senator who is in an election challenge in N.J. and with the present split, if Sen T. lost in Jersey, the Senate would change hands. No advantage there - the Democrats will deep six this just as they did with the Clinton trial.

Says alot about our legal system that they don't even have to cover their tracks. The lawyers won't file charges, the courts won't allow evidence and the judges won't convict, not one of the ruling class anyway

There is a lot of difference between Trafficant and Torricelli.
Torricelli is a mainstream Democrat and in the Clinton-Democrat mold. This group and especially the Democrats in Congress will flock to Torricelli like they did Clinton.
Watch what I tell you,old Trafficant can quite well be guilty but in Congress the only thing different from him and the rest is that he wasnt one of the good old boys that towed the mark every time.
Congress will scream and holler that Trafficant was a convicted felon but the proof is in the pudding, per capita there are more crooks in Congress than in the General American populace.

Excellent idea -- too bad any business would be afraid to do it!
Recipe for "Pasta Torricelli" - undisclosed ingredients, covered up with unspecified sauce, made behind closed doors.

No. The worst thing is that they do not have to cover their tracks. They have evolved into a privileged class a Titled Nobility above the law and rulers of their subjects. Our Founding Fathers saw fit to abolish Titled Nobility in America, but our hereditary rulers such as Kennedy and Clinton sort of like having a Title, too and Senatorsounded nice.

These guys have admitted they do not want to do their jobs. If the voters of NV and HI were not asleep, theyd take this as a cue to replace the Senators.
