The Left's mental model of the world is entirely free of incentive effects, particularly adjustments to changes in the incentives a situation offers. This is what permits them to assert that tax cuts are just losses of revenue to the government that don't help anyone. It also permits them to say that the vigorous prosecution and punishment of crime won't reduce crime, that a vigorous military response to aggression won't reduce aggression, and that providing people with material comfort before they've done anything to earn it will make them resolve to go out and earn it
ex post facto.I wish causation worked this way. If it did, all we'd have to do to produce a society of millionaires would be to spin the printing presses over at the Mint. Reality, however, is indifferent to our fantasies.

Great article. I guess I hadn't really looked at it exactly that way before....in terms of the left always focusing on things while conservatives focus on people. Of course, it is obvious, but Michael Medved puts it into words very well.
