The "wascally wabbit," who's faced down Elmer Fudd, Marvin the Martian and Yosemite Sam, has come out on top again: According to the latest issue of TV Guide, Bugs Bunny is the greatest cartoon character of all time.

Bugs is also the only character from the pre-television animated-short golden age to make the magazine's top 10.

Most beloved?  Okay.  But the funniest is Fearless Fosdick.

NO mention of Foghorn Leghorn, Speedy Gonzales, Sylvester, Mighty Mouse makes this a travesty. None of the the characters of the last 10 yrs. except Homer and maybe SpongeBob could make the top two dozen.

I hate to be and old fuddy-duddy about all this, but Charlie Brown trailing Beavis and Butthead is a minor travesty which reflects very poorly on our culture.

And in all seriousness, Cartman should have been #1.

You are Pepe Le Pew!

You are a suave skunk who lives for l'amour. You may not always get the girl (or guy), but there are always many more fish in the sea, no?

I hate to be and old fuddy-duddy about all this...

Heh ;)

...but Charlie Brown trailing Beavis and Butthead is a minor travesty which reflects very poorly on our culture.

Why? "Peanuts" may have been good and worthy back in the late '60's and early '70's, but let's be honest for a moment - after that it turned into a giant advertising machine. Is there anything that Charlie Schulz wouldn't put Snoopy and Charlie Brown to work selling? Seriously, I think about the only things that were missing from the stable were "Peanuts"-brand cigarettes, whiskey, and maxi-pads ;)

Now, there's nothing wrong with making money, don't get me wrong. But I think they're disqualified from "beloved cartoon character" rankings, and should be entered into "beloved ad pitchmen" rankings instead... :^)

Mickey Mouse sucks and has always sucked. Bugs rightfully deserves the title just because he was first to embody the plucky, can-do, wiseguy American attitude of the mid century. That, and he's effing funny. Homer deserves second place for epitomizing the American attitude of the early 21st century.

God help America.

Spongebob? Man, they've got some great writers over there. Good clean funny fun.

"Foghorn Leghorn used to crack me up until I became familiar with Fritz Hollings."

I wish I'd said that and I probably will.

I thank you. No mention of Dr. Atomic, either, but I see that my current heartthrobs the Powerpuff Girls made it. But "Gerald McBoingBoing?" Anyone who remembers him is way, way too old...
